Very dissapointed in recieved item.
Ok so I bought a desktop from someone who I am not naming who...
Anyways, it was supposed to be in ''like-new'' condition but when I received it today, here is what I found...
The box was all bent up so I just assumed that it was because of UPS but when I opened the box, I found a huge gash on the side panel of the case! It's very noticeable. I have no camera to take a picture of it unfortunately. So I just wanted to see if this computer actually ran but let's see...when I start up the computer to install the OS it doesn't even stay on long enough for me to even put in the CD!
I turn it on, wait 3 seconds for the BIOS to come and it shuts off...
Should I request a refund? I am very...very...disappointed.

Re: Very dissapointed in recieved item.
This sounds eeriely similar to Calpolymekster's problems in a thread a little below this. If you want, you could browse through that thread for quite a heated debate concerning his transaction.
Anyway, have you contacted the seller and voiced your displeasure? Do you have documentation that it was supposed to be "like-new"? Pictures would be ideal, especially if provided by the seller. Likewise, take dated pictures yourself to prove the damage as soon as you can. Sounds like the system is pretty shot. Are you willing to fiddle with it and perhaps reseat a loose video card/RAM or something? Or would rather just take a refund?
Just some questions to consider. First step would be to contact the seller and try to settle civilly. If you cannot get in contact and suspect fraud, i.e. a disconnected phone line, not responding to email/PMs, etc. file a dispute/claim with Paypal. Then be prepared to go to your CC company with a claim due to Paypal's limited abilities to recover funds.

Re: Very dissapointed in recieved item.
First off, no where in my thread did I say I accept refunds. Secondly, I've never had any complaints from ANYONE, and mods can intervene and send personal PM's to people I've sold to, on the quality of my items. The computer was barely two weeks old. Thirdly, I had already reformatted the computer for you before I had even sent it out, I even included Windows Business for you for free. You never paid for it, and you had never asked for it. You simply stated that you had no Operating System because you had sold your Sager, so I kindly told you that I will include Windows Vista Business for free.
If it is damaged, it is the fault of UPS. I can help initiate a claim for you because I took out insurance on it thankfully.

There is no settling. I know what I sold, and I know the condition I've sold it in. It was a 2 week old system. It's obvious UPS is at fault and I'm not even going to stand for being accused of selling a non working computer with a gash on the side

Re: Very dissapointed in recieved item.
You guys could probably take care of this through PMs. I don't see any reason to throw your transaction into the public forum. It tends to stir up people to provide their own opinions, which, not being part of the transaction, are unnecessary.
Hope you two can work it out civilly. It'd be a nice change from "Argh, I got scammed, let's turn the entire American police force on this guy".
Good luck.
Edit:
When I wrote settle, I did not necessarily mean to imply concessions on either said. Just come to a mutually beneficial solution.
Again, good luck.

Re: Very dissapointed in recieved item.
Well let's see, the motherboard is not even seated in the case correctly or that's what I am assuming since one of the screws isn't even screwed onto the case. The HSF was barely hanging onto the CPU and I can't even get it back on there...
Frustrating...

Well, without pictures, your worded descriptions are nice, but provide no real, hard proof. Just a statement.
Again, the two of you can discuss this through PMs, can you not? And if there are problems, contact a mod to moderate (no pun intended).
The last discussion got pretty out of hand once people started jumping in. Just a little warning.

Re: Very dissapointed in recieved item.
I've installed everything fine. I'm sure the mishandling of UPS could have possibly cause the heatsink to pop out of place. Why would you try to boot up the computer if you don't have the heatsink on? I understand your frustration and I'm trying to help you as best as I can. You opened a dispute before you even contacted me.
I'll be calling UPS tomorrow.
