Selling Compal HGL30 or Sager NP5790. Help Me Decide By Making Offers...
Hi,
I just wrote a gigantic message and it got lost, so I'm keeping this as short as possible.
I currently own a compal hgl30 with a t2500 core duo 2.0ghz cpu, geforcego 7600, 120gb 5400rpm hdd, DL dvdrw, and 2gb micron ddr667 ram. It was running counter strike: source (the main game I play) at 25-30fps at medium to low settings, so I decided I wanted to sell it and get a Sager NP5790 (Clevo M570RU). Then some new drivers came out and this Compal runs CS:S at maxed settings at a steady 70-90 fps, so it is plenty good for my gaming needs now. It is in mint condition w/ perfect screen, save some light scratches on the top (unavoidable w/ this type of finish). I also did the keyboard mod with a thin strip of metal under the keyboard so it is very sturdy. This one also has a bluetooth chip and 3945a/b/g wifi card. It has a 14.1" 1280x800 res gloss screen. I thought this would be the perfect laptop as it was the only 14" screen (I wanted portability for school) that was a good gaming laptop (and this is still basically true until the FT00 comes out I think).
Before those drivers came out I ordered a Sager NP5790. It just looked awesome and I thought I needed a higher end gfx card for gaming, which I don't. It is currently in the mail and has a t7300 2.0ghz cpu, 2gb ddr667 ram, 100gb 7200rpm hdd (which I will swap for a 160gb 5400rpm if I keep it), geforcego 7950gtx, and I will be adding a 4965a/g/n wifi card. No bluetooth...it was a ripoff and if I ever need it (probably not) I will get a usb dongle for $6. It has the uxga+ 17" 1920x1200 gloss screen and is brand new, hasn't even arrived. Oh, it has a DL dvdrw too.
I am trying to decide which one to sell. The ridiculously high res screen and better speakers would be nice on the NP5790, since I am entering a digital music production class in a week, and if I decide to get some newer games (I've barely even been gaming this whole summer) it could be good to have the better card. But the battery life is not as good and it will be slightly less portable (not bad at all though at 8.3 or so lbs for the huge screen).
I'd say I probably want to keep the NP5790, but it's really up in the air right now as the Compal is excellent, super fast for day to day needs, and apparently pretty darn good for gaming with the driver update. Also the keyboard was annoying until I modded it.
I am wondering how much some of you would be willing to pay for the GL30 or if anyone is interested. I know that the IFL90 is out and the FT00 (basically the updated GL30) is coming out soon, but I would be willing to sell this for substantially less than the FT00 with same specs, and I doubt the FT00 will be noticably better anyway.
So, I got a great deal on the NP5790 too, and I can't decide which to sell. Please PM me with offers for either or both laptops so I can get an idea of what each is worth to the market and decide which one to sell. I haven't seen the 5790 but I'm kind of thinking I will want to keep that one for the screen (and then I can get rid of my TV in my room and just use that) and desktop real estate for using high end music production software. 17" is enough, 14" not so much.
Also, I use my GL30 with UltraMon and my 19" LCD monitor (1280x1024 res) in dual screen mode sometimes and it works great, so it's really not that limiting to have the small screen because you can just use an external monitor.
Any offers are not set in stone so feel free to throw numbers around to help me make a decision and we can always bargain or compromise.
Thanks a lot and get those offers rolling because I need to sell one of these within a month or so.
