    Default Help diagnose a crash

Hoping someone can help me understand this report and give me an idea about what went on. Basically, a user's machine crashed on him. He was editing a document in Word, and got the grey screen and "power off your machine" message. Here's the file he provided. Any help is appreciated

eh... probably something to do with a network share he was connected to... but its not always really obvious when its a kernel panic like that... it could be a bug, or bad hardware, or even just a memory problem.

I'm just guessing because of the smbfs at the top of the crash, which is Apple's replacement for Samba to connect to SMB networking shares.

Okay, that does make sense - he said shortly before the crash that he was kicked off our share drive. Thanks for the input!

I've had weird problems with 10.7 and SMB shares... so its not surprising... I wish they'd have just stuck to using Samba which is more tried and tested since its what the rest of the non-Windows world uses.

launchd crashes are quite common. Google "launchd crash" to see what I mean. If it happens again, check system.log and launchd-shutdown.log to see what process/program launchd was trying to launch when it occurred.
