    Default Keyboard stickers for MacBook?

I really want to protect my investment and I know that laptop keys tend to show wear after a few months of using it. I have a silicone skin, but it is bulky and annoying.

There are stickers for the keys sold on eBay: Rainbow Style Keyboard MacBook Air 11inch Sticker Decal | eBay

but they are all either rainbow, pink, colored or some other ****. Has anyone ever seen fully transparent or at least black stickers?

I find for the MBP, the keys don't really show the same kind of wear, due to the fact that keys are backlit (and thus, the letters/numbers aren't paint, but rather translucent to allow the light to shine through). The plastic itself can start to look a little shiny, but even after 1.5 years of using my MBP on a regular basis, the only shininess I really see is on the spacebar.

Buy some ZAGGFoam (or equivalent cleaning stuff) and every once in a while, give the keyboard some cleaning. Basically, the oils from your fingers are what do the most amount of damage, so cleaning it off every once in a while can go a really long way to keeping your keyboard looking good.

I literally wore shiny spots into the space bar and enter key within two hours of getting my MBP out of the box in 2009.

OP if you really want to protect your investment it's best to get something like a silicone keyboard cover like the iSkin (which I definitely recommend) or the Moshi Clearguard. These skins will protect the whole keyboard from spills. Protecting the keys from becoming shiny is only cosmetic. You have to think about what could happen if you have a drink spill over your Macbook. Those stickers won't do anything to protect that.

Yeah. The problem is, I am very careful (in the 5 laptops that I ever had never have I spilled anything on them), yet I use them a lot, so the wear becomes rather substantial.

I can't believe that they sell colored stickers, but none that are black of clear. Looks like a good market to get into (for the entrepreneurial kind).

Let me know if you know of something in that arena, I still haven't found anything.

I am not sure how that is possible? Do you not use it a lot? Everyone I know who has had a MacBook, especially with black keys, has glossyness starting to show on some keys like space and enter especially after like 6 months to 1 year

I have had my early 2011 MBP for 8 months now. The keyboard gets used every single day for at least 2 hours. It is used for about 6-7 hours on days where I do a lot of MATLAB work. It still looks like new as I clean it properly. The keys do get glossy but it easily wipes off with the right solvent. Things will get worse if you just leave all of the oil and grime on there and continue to use it (thus giving the chemical reactions ample time to complete and for the keys to further "absorb" the oil only to get worn out).

I use an alcohol wipe about once every 2-3 weeks on my keyboard as that is about the only thing that can disperse the oil (without getting into more complex chemicals that would ruin things). They are disposable and I have a whole 100 pack tube at work in a dispenser similar to what the Clorox wipes come in.

I've seen Unibodies at work that are 3 years old used heavily every day and they keys still look like new with just 1 clean wipe after they are tureen in when the person leaves the company.

There is no need to clean them every day.
