Default Can you use the iPad charger with the iPod Touch?

I was just planning on charging my iPad from desktop systems via USB but my wife likes the iPad and can sometimes drain the battery down to 20%. The iPad charger charges the iPad really fast so I guess I'll set it up in the office or home to charge it after it gets used a lot.

I was wondering if the iPad charger can be used to charge the iPod Touch (first generation) or regular iPods. Has anyone tried this or knows whether or not it's supported?

I saw a thread in MacForums that stated that you could use the two together so I tried it out and it doesn't work on my first generation iPod Touch. It would be nice to test it on my iPod Nanos too but I expect the same result. I tried two different cables too. Oh well, looks like good old USB charging on the iPod Touch.

I have an older 60GB iPod and just recently an iPad. I just tried to charge my iPod with the plug-in charger in Asia where the voltage is 240V and it seems to be working. I cannot vouch for what will be the on-going effects of the charging, whether the input voltage is too high for the iPod battery but so far so good.

I believe the problem with charging older iPod devices is that Apple changed the pinout on the dock connectors when they got rid of firewire support. So 1st gen iPod Touches, iPhone 2G and iPod Nanos Gen 3 (and older) don't charge with newer chargers Considering the 30-pin dock connector is Apple's proprietary port this was an annoying move IMHO. Why not just keep the power pins the same????

I dunno about iPod classics when/if they changed and what generation.

Using 220-240V euro/asian power is no problem. All the AC adapters are rated 120-240VAC for the input and can convert it to the necessary 5VDC no problem This is true of pretty much any AC adapter for a consumer electronics device, which is why you only need a plug adapter to fit the wall socket.

Is there an adapter for the older models? It would be nice to be able to charge my 1st gen iPod Touch and my daughter's 2nd gen Nano with this thing.

I've seen adapters for charging new iPhones/iPods w/ old chargers, but not to charge old w/ new.

Also, they are are rediculously overpriced. $20 for what amounts to be a plastic nub which flips 2 of the dock pin connectors

Charge Converter - CableJive or just search Amazon.com. But like I said, these are for charging NEW iDevices with OLD iDevice chargers, so not really what you're looking for.

Looks like it will be USB charging then.

I use my iPod Touch mainly for running. I hook it up to a Bluetooth transceiver for my wireless headphones. The iPod Touch battery isn't that great (understandable - it's old) and when the battery gets down to about 5/8ths, power falls off a cliff so I like to keep it topped off for workouts.
