    Hi guyz & galz,
I guess this is the thread to post my inquiries. If not.... then, I apologize. I just didn't want to create another thread, for there are too many now. hehe
And if someone could direct me to the right thread, I would greatly appreciate it. Okey, here I go....

I just recently acquired a 17" MacBook Pro model A1229, along with (2) Install Disc version 10.5.2, and an unopened OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) disc package from my sister. It's an old one, given to her by her employer. Then, pass it on to me. Please bear with me, for I'm a newbie when it comes to Apple OSes. The weirdest thing is, the ntbk has Tiger (10.4) installed on it instead.

    My questions are:
    1. Are all OS X DVDs, Full Version? There seems to be no indication whether or not if it's an "upgrade" OR "full" version. Or, if both are in the disc(s).... Sowee, I'm coming from the PC side.
    2. Can I install the unopened Snow Leopard (10.6) on this A1229 McBk Pro? There is no indication if this is for the regular MacBook (w/c my sister has) or for the MacBook Pro.
    3. My sister's MacBook has Leopard (10.5) on hers. Can I use that for the Pro? But the disc indicates "MacBook", so I'm guessing... will not install on the Pro.
    4. I was thinking of trading the unopened Snow Leopard for the latest Lion (10.7). Can I install that on the A1229 MacBook Pro? It would be quite a leap from 10.4 to 10.7 I suppose....
    5. Lastly, whether I use any of the newer version of OS X. May it be Snow Leopard or Lion, can I also upgrade my sister's MacBook to that? Meaning, I'm using the same installation disc twice (on McBk Pro & McBk). Is that even possible, or do I have to buy another copy of it?

    Thanks everyone.

    1) yes all of them are full versions, with the only exception of the OSX lion server, which needs the ''normal'' lion license

    2) If the license is ok, them do it.

    3) No you cant, license software still works the same on the macs, unless its a family package

4)No you cant do that, its 30 bucks to get lion.

    5) see 3.

On another note, you need snow leopard (10.6) to install lion, while you can still do a clean install, which I did, you still need it

Thank you so much for the reply.

I'll trade the unopened Snow Leopard for a Family Package then. It's only 20 bucks difference, there.
    6. Which is a better OS to get? Snow Leopard or Lion, and why?

Now, here's a tricky and somewhat skittish of a question. This laptop has Office 2004 installed on it by my sister's employer, prior to giving it to her. All his datas are taken out, so I can use it. The problem is, I don't have the license number; but I can still use the Office. I'd like to do a clean install from the existing Tiger (10.4) to either Snow Leopard or Lion. But that would mean lossing the Office.
    7. Is there a way I can do to find out this Office's license no. or serial no. so I can install it back, when I wipe the HDD clean? Like installing a password revealer or something.... prehaps? I would hate to spend another 150 bucks for an Office. hehe

    8. And lastly, what's the max. in terms of upgrading the hardwares on this laptop? Like where and how do I find out, is there a reputable website(s) to go?
I'd to upgrade the HDD. Like, 1TB 7200rpm HDD maybe.... what's the interface on this.... SATA? I can settle for a 500gb 7200 if it can't go 1TB. It's a lot better than the existing 160gb....

    Thnx once again.

Hi, On wednesday I've bought my first mac, a Macbook Pro. The day before Jobs died. It feels weird, but one thing I know is that I should've done it earlier. How amazing is Mac OS. Everything just works. No crashes, freezes, bugs, nothing. Like all of my other Apple products. Starting with the iPod Touch 1G to the iPhone 3G, 3GS and at the moment (but not for long anymore!) the iPhone 4.

But I've got one question and making a new topic seemed unnecessary for just one question. When I swiped with 4 fingers from the inside to the outside on my trackpad, normally everything on my screen (windows, etc) removes to just my wallpaper without the top bar and the dashboard below. But suddenly now I go the my desktop with the dashboard an the top bar, and my opened windows will go out of the screen. I think I didn't changed anything. Some one can help me? Thanks.

    Back to Mac!!!

I'm going to use a 2010 MB 13 as my main machine. Found it for $390 -$100 in eBay Bucks.

I'm thinking of maybe upgrading to an SSD, not really sure if I need it.
