Re: NBR Apple Core
hey guys, is there an app that will allow you to control the max charge for your battery?
On my old Vaio, I could specify whether the computer stop charging at 40%, 50%, 80%, or 100%. this feature was included because as you all know, these batteries last longer when not fully charged. and the lower the charge (down to 30%-40%) the longer the battery lifespan.
Does the MBP by default or by way of 3rd party app support this same kind of functionality?17" Apple MacBook Pro | i7 2720m | 160GB SSD + 750GB | 16GB | HD 6750M 1GB

Re: NBR Apple Core
i haven't heard of a program like this for apple but i know by default that when you have unplugged your laptop and the battery is more than 95%(either 90% or 95%, i cannot remember exactly), it will not charge.

Re: NBR Apple Core
a new question guys...for those who have put an SSD in their optibay.
From what I've read tonight, it's difficult to properly install Win 7 via Bootcamp without using the superdrive *internally*. This more or less means that the SSD drive has to be installed at least temporarily in the primary HDD bay.
here's what I'd like to do, conceptually:
1.) CCC and remove the HDD drive and replace with SSD.
2.) Install the SSD and drop the clone onto the new SSD.
3.) Partition with bootcamp and install Win 7 with my Win 7 DVD media.
4.) Install the necessary Win 7 drivers and ensure stability.
5.) Move the SSD from the main drive to the optibay.
6.) Place original HDD (now wiped, partitioned, journaled) back into the primary HDD bay.
7.) ?????
8.) Profit.
-------------------------------------
My biggest questions lie in steps 5 and 6. Is that possible? Will the computer freak out of the drive with the OS is moved from one bay to the other? How would I tell the computer to use the optibay to boot?
Or is this impossible and thus would have to install OSX from its new location in order to make it work right?
Also, would installing Win7 from a flash drive allow me to avoid almost all of those steps by simply installing the SSD in the optibay from the beginning, installing OSX on it, bootcamping, and installing Win 7 via the USB stick? can a Mac book from a usb stick?
Hopefully this makes sense. I'm just hella tired of reading on this subject and not finding any clear answer. Any insight would be appreciated.17" Apple MacBook Pro | i7 2720m | 160GB SSD + 750GB | 16GB | HD 6750M 1GB

Re: NBR Apple Core
nah... I've had Win7 installed on its own secondary drive in an optibay, then moved it to the main bay as a single and only hard drive and win7 still booted up and worked fine.. no OSX anywhere on the system.
I don't think it will be an issue.
as far as installing Windows correctly from an external USB optical drive.. it shouldn't be a problem with Win7.
I tried XP and Vista but they had driver issues with the external enclosure I got with my Optibay, and I could not install, but I used Win7 and it had no issues and installed fine from the external drive to the drive in my optibay.Wineskin 2.5 is available!. Re: NBR Apple Core
very insightful. thank you.
so the process of getting the Windows 7 install to boot after creating the bootcamp will work via external drive or thumbdrive. good news. last question, is there a special button or anything like that one has to press to boot from either external device after staring up in bootcamp? I had read elsewhere that bootcamp and flash drives are not friends.17" Apple MacBook Pro | i7 2720m | 160GB SSD + 750GB | 16GB | HD 6750M 1GB

Re: NBR Apple Core
what is "starting up in bootcamp" ??
you mean in Windows? you can boot off any bootable device on your machine by just hold down the Alt/Option key right after you turn on your machine (keep holding it down, not just pressing it once), and it will load up a boot menu showing you all bootable devices found you can select from.Wineskin 2.5 is available!. Re: NBR Apple Core
I mean...I guess I don't know how to articulate it (since I've never done it).
my assumption is that when you create the bootcamp partition, it creates an empty, Fat32-formatted partition. by rebooting with the option key and selecting the Windows/Bootcamp partition to boot off of, it will start a boot process more familiar to Windows PC users.
My question is at this point (after selecting to boot off the bootcamp/windows partition), will it recognize and boot off the flash drive with the familiar "press any key to continue..." screen dialogue? or is the process different? If you're not sure, that's fine. It's not a pressing issue at all...I just like to know what I'll be dealing with on day 1 and minimizing the trial and error where possible.17" Apple MacBook Pro | i7 2720m | 160GB SSD + 750GB | 16GB | HD 6750M 1GB

Re: NBR Apple Core
it runs Windows like normal... everything applies...
I don't recall what it formats the partition if anything... its not like it has to be FAT or anything else, it can be non-formatted to HFS+... it doesn't matter, Windows will fix it how it wants it, its the partition that matters, not the filesystem on it.
why would you need to boot up of a flash drive from a Windows start? anything thats bootable can be booted off of the main boot menu... no need to start Windows first.
but why would you need to?Wineskin 2.5 is available!. Turn Windows apps into Mac apps for free!
