I believe 'My Computer' on a PC encompases the hard drive C: plus all other local drives eg floppy usually A:, DVD drive usually D: and any manually mapped drives eg H:, I: etc.

'Macintosh HD' is only equivalent to 'C:' on a PC - basically 'My Computer' is a level of hierarchy that doesn't really have a Mac equivalent. If you open a Finder window you will normally see Macintosh HD listed with all other connected drives (local and network), but these aren't grouped into a single top-level entity.

    Hope this helps

I'd think just clicking on the Finder icon on the dock while no other Finder windows are open opens the closest thing to a "My Computer" view. Displays connected drives, that sort of thing.

Well, clicking Macintosh HD opens up the same Finder window anyways . The sidebar in any Finder window will show (as long as you don't change it) connected drives, Macintosh HD, and under that, Home, Applications, Music, Photos, etc.
