Re: New M17x R4, M14X R2 and M18X R2 are coming - Speculation thread.
Is there any possible way that I can order an M17x without a hard drive or any RAM? I know Dell doesn't do barebones systems, but I'm wondering if I could talk to someone about that..
Ordered: Alienware M17x | i7-3820QM | 1080p 60Hz | 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 | 7970M | 32GB mSATA Caching + 750GB 7200RPM | Killer 1103 | BD-ROM Reader
Lenovo T500 | 1280x800 | Core 2 Duo T7400 2.17 GHz | 8GB DDR3 1066 | Intel GMA X4500 | 500GB 7200RPM |

You're welcome and thanks for the well wishes. He should be fine by Monday. I feel like I should post a pic of him now, since everyone is being so thoughtful.

One thing about 18vs17: M18x has a waaaayyyy better cooling system. If you want to overclock and max out that beast, you will face far fewer temperature related throttling issues.
Tentative target remains May 10. This is an engineering target based on driver qualification, and could slip if the driver fails qual.
Very odd. Most perplexing. That SKU comes back with no valid child or parent parts. But it's an M17xR4, so it's technically impossible for it to be anything but Ivy Bridge. I'll do some digging.
Allan is offline today. You should let one of his assistant dudes on the sales thread know ASAP. If all else fails, @DellCares can ship you one out after the order arrives. If you're getting that error on the website, try mixing and matching different numbers in the search criteria. Maybe order number + customer number will work better. Quirky tool.

Is the better cooling system related to the fact that it CAN support SLI/CFX, or perhaps because of it's size? Maybe because it's made of alloy? I'm curious now.

Alright thanks Bill, hopefully they will PM me soon.
An ordinary laptop with some uninspiring processor.

Size mostly. More air volume=more air=better cooling. There's also a bigger fan on the 18, if I'm not mistaken.
Dangit. Was afraid of that. Now I know where everyone is getting those invalid SKU's. That one doesn't work. It might be a regional thing. As long as it's one of the new systems, it has Ivy. No doubt.
