Quick: Should I get the M14x or....?
Me = Student in college, used to love to game, but doesn't always have the time anymore. Still wants a portable, powerful system though.
I'm strong, weight isn't an issue. M14x or M15x then? I heard the m15x is huge and heavy! How much smaller is the m14x screen?
I would like to occasional hop on and maybe play some FPS like battlefield or call of duty or maybe some WoW.
Anyone own one of these or have experience? Could you recommend one?
It seems I will either purchase a used m15x or a m14x from Dell's outlet and take a chance. Should I just pick any one? there are like 15 m14x at the dell outlet and None have pictures and they all have near the same price and stats.....
Help?

M14x or M17x if you have the funds.
The M15x is EOL and older tech. Still good tech and is upgradeable.Laptopless again.

Re: Quick: Should I get the m14x or m15x??
Yeah the 17" is WAYYY too big for college, 15.6" is even pushing it, especially the THICK alienwares which are not even "normal" 15.6 (i.e. slim macbook pro).
I should be able to scrape up the funds for a m14x then.
But wait, "older tech" lol The m15x has the core i7 and decent Nvidia GPU.
Lol, that can still power it's way through stuff... geez, if it didn't come out like 1week ago it's just not good enough for you guys

In your situation, what would make an M17x such a problem? There are a fair amount of backpacks that would fit a 17 inch laptop, one in particular that I really like and is college appropriate. I'm heading off to college this September and I'm planning on getting an M18x but starting to have second thoughts about how it would work out in a college environment.

Re: Quick: Should I get the m14x or m15x??
Uhhhhhhhh, People always complained about laptop weight when I was buying my first model, and I was liek "pffft big deal, I want the BIGGEST ONE".
I work out alot and I'm a big guy too, but man, carrying around HUGE Biology books, HUGE Chemistry books, not being able to put them in a locker or my car, so I have to carry them around all day.... PLUS my Laptop...
Well, needless to say, it becomes a pain in the really quick. This is even with my 5-6lb Gateway 15.6".
I had to buy a "commuter" backpack which was like 80$ but wayyy comfortable and had a laptop slot... but still, I was nervous about getting the m15x... I think I'm learning toward the m14x now the more you guys talk about it...
but yeah, I couldn't even imagine the m17x let alone the m18x that's just ungodly.

Re: Quick: Should I get the m14x or m15x??
M15X is still a good deal if you want a "middle of the road" size which isn't super compact like a 11-14", and not huge like a 17.3-18.4". The first gen i& processor might be the kicker though, but with the GTX 460M GPU it's got gaming goodness the GT 555M can't match.
If you want compact though, the M14X might be it. Second gen Core i7 is what it has going for it, along with the size. The only downsides would be the555M GPU as the max offering, and the lower res of the smaller screen, at least in comparison to the M15X.
Maybe price a few configs side by side for comparision and see what looks best to you for the price. If you can get a loaded M15X for what a M14X costs, it might be a harder decision, but if you can get the M14X how you want and it's around the same or even a much better price, that could make it an easier decision.

Re: Quick: Should I get the m14x or m15x??
M14x. I wouldnt even think about the m15x (maybe m17x r3 but not the m15x). Owned both and the m14x is much friendlier in a campus setting.
That being said I used my m15x on campus all last year with no problems. If your not use to a large laptop get the m14x.Work_Horse|Asus Sabertooth Z77|Intel i5-3570K|4GB Ram|180GB Intel 330 SSD|64GB Samsung 830 SSD+2TB Seagate +500GB WD Black HDD|EVGA Nvidia GTX-680 SC

Re: Quick: Should I get the m14x or m15x??
Just received one yesterday. Have the m17x don't care what they say it really is to big, heavy to carry everywhere. After all it's a desktop replacement. The m11x great little machine but a little to small for a main machine. m14x ahhh just right the res on the screen is very sharp and bright. Very much like it's big brothers, I was very impressed after the neg remarks about it. And yes it came from the Outlet store not a mark on it just like new.
The ALX is a replacement for a Outlet Aurora that was bad and they upgraded me. So enjoy your system which ever you get.

Re: Quick: Should I get the m14x or m15x??
M18x in college.............no way!
The M17x is even pushing it. Although I thought it would be crazy huge, but I was surprised...the M17x is actually pretty darn thin. The thing that makes it hard to transport is that it is SOLID, I mean it is heavy like a tank. But what do you expect when you are pushing this kind of hardware in a laptop like this.[RETURNED] Alienware M17X R3 2630QM | 4GB DDR3 | 64 gig Crucial M4 SSD | 320 gig 7200 RPM HDD | AMD Radeon HD 6970M
