m17x is quieter. You can really tell when the m14x fans kick in.

I'll be able to give you a side by side comparison in a few days. I have an m17x r3 with GTX580m card already and have ordered an m14x because the m17x is really too big for me to cart around when i travel.

Of course there's pros and cons here. The m17x i have is an outstanding which plays bf3 at high/ultra with good fps, but it weighs a ton and is pretty bulky even by 17" standards. I'm hoping I can live without the performance in favour of the portability, but the noise issue does concern me.

I should get the m14x laptop b4 Xmas and then I'll test both out at the same time. Sadly i have no noise measuring equipment but I could perhaps record it with a mic and then you'll have a comparison.

i have both the m17xr3 and the m14x and the m17x is quite a bit quieter, fan-wise. the m17x is whisper-quiet, althoough i don't find the m14x terribly annoying.

Default M11xr3 or m14x base model

    Hi guys,

i sold my m11xr1 a few months ago in order to save up for a new laptop, i have about 1200 to spend and was wondering, in terms of better performance which is better, the m11xr3 fully loaded with all the bells and whistles or the m14x base model, no upgrades?

    Games im looking to run,

    BF3
    ARMA2
    ARMA3

The M14x has a lot of advantages over the M11x, especially if you're not going to pack it around all the time and if battery life is no big deal. It has a better video card and the CPU can be upgraded.

thanks, my parents are divorced, so packing it up and moving is no big deal, but i noticed that the standard base model is hte same price as an upgraded 11xr3, so if i wasnt looking to upgrade any of the inside parts, would the m14x really be better?

well, with m14 you can get a real i7 - a quad core cpu that is - and a gfx card that's about 50% better.
You can also get a comfortable 1600x900 screen.

with m11x what you really get is better portability... if that is not your main thing i would suggest to go for m14

So would the 2670QM I7, (cheapest I7) be good for these games?

Yes in terms of spec the M14x wins, only real reason to have the m11x is for a cheaper option/smaller size/mobility/portability

If you're comfortable with the m14x then it's the way to go.
