Oh I forgot about that. Alienware's own large-screen failure!

Yea, the M2010 was a terrible terrible laptop. Pain to work on, high failure rate, huge and VERY heavy.. had a built in handle just to lug the thing around.

It was literally a folding desktop. Wireless bluetooth keyboard. There was no portability at all. Mini-ITX desktops were easier to lug around.

It was definitely a neat machine, but when you end up packing that much stuff into a weird shaped case it becomes so tight that things are prone to overheating, plus they are a pain to work on.

I didnt mind the M2010. Did me well for 4 years. The concept was on target, like I hope they do with the M18x, Desktop power that was much more portable than a desktop. I travel everyday with my m17x and its a brute. I dont think the m18x would be that much worse. But I'm expecting desktop power from the M18x.

If the M18x is released, don't expect it to be much bigger than the M17x-R2. At most it will be about the size of an x7200 though I think Dell will make it less thick. There will never be a repeat of the M2010, that thing was underpowered, oversized and just ugly.

I'd definitely call it fake. The M17x is already announced and will have at least one 6970M (crossfire/SLi configs currently unknown). If they made an M18x it would definitely have 6970Ms, or there'd be no point to it.

Specs are up on the Alienware UK site and the M17x-R3 is just as weak as anticipated. In a way this serves as confirmation that we're definitely going to see something more from Alienware in the future. Jerry (NBR site admin) hinted at Dell having more up their sleeves and coupled with Eric G's announcement of M18x, it's looking like a given that we're set for a new more powerful model. If that is the case, I think Dell made a wise move with teh M17x-R3 to compete against the likes of Asus.

Is there any idea of a release date? I dont mind waiting for it but at least some sort of release date would help!

And why they didnt announce it at CES is mind boggling....

They wouldn't announce a product that isn't ready for production. If I had to guess, I'd say we will see something about it within the next 3-5 months.

Yeah...I was hoping for an official announcement at CES or something from Dell's mouth lol. Cause I don't want to have to get the M17x-r2 and be stuck with a M17x-r3 or r4 or r5 as my only way out should something arise down the future.

Though...just a thought...wouldn't the R3 NOT be an equivalent to the R2 due to it's single GPU configuration?

We have to look out for ourselves now that Dell decided to shift the M17x towards a different direction.
