Re: Alienware laptop case redesign?
I don't remember where I read it. But the new machines might be full plastic( or carbon fiber) to reduce weight. Will have a look around later to find the source.
Currently: M17x Nebula RED | 840QM i7 quad | RGB LED | 6GB RAM | Crossfire 5870MR | 6300 wireless | 370 Bluetooth | 1TB 7200rpm HDD | Razor Orochi...
Broken: Vaio Z | i5 540 | Nvidia GT330m | 128 GB SSD| 6GB RAM |
Returned: M15x | i7 820QM | Nvidia GT260m | 500GB HDD | 4GB RAM |

Re: Alienware laptop case redesign?
I highly doubt that. Carbon Fiber just cost too much. If they want to reduce weight, go back to magnesium covers and not the thick (although awesome) aluminum.
Alienware M14x R2: Intel Core i7 3610qm | 8GB (2x4GB) Kingston HyperX DDR3-1866 Ram | Nvidia GT 650m 2GB GDDR5 | Intel 320 160GB SSD | Killer Wifi 1202 | Slot Load Blu-Ray Player | 900p Screen
Retired: Alienware M17x R1 | Alienware M18x R1 | Alienware M11x R1

Re: Alienware laptop case redesign?
There's no way (yet) to mass produce carbon-fiber. It's all still hand made.
ie.. there's 0 chance of it being applied in a mass production market like laptops.M17X-R2 l i7 740QM l CF 5870l 8GB DDR3 l OCZ Vertex2 120/ M-XT 4/500 l RGB LED l BLU-RE l 6300 Ultimate l Windows 7 Pro l Cryo LX l 3 Year CC l Razor Mabma

Re: Alienware laptop case redesign?
The new AW design will have the screen positioned "slightly advanced" from the back of the chassis...just like the new XPS 15 & 17 notebooks that AW will rebranded off of.

Re: Alienware laptop case redesign?
Carbon fiber isn't expensive, not as much as it once was. I know all to well since I deal with it all the time and replace it all the time, I fly RC models and they're blades, frame sides etc. are Carbon Fiber. Every time you crash you gotta replace it too. :P
