M11x Display Problem

I don't know whats wrong but after my computer sleeps or when the display turns off due to being idle, I won't be able to wake it up by pressing any keyboard keys or the power button (the keyboard lights are still up though). The only way is to hard-reset the laptop.

Aikimox is on the right track... this is almost always a driver issue. Try re-installing the NV display driver.

I am using the stock driver from dell and also, the problem started recently, it was not like this when it arrived. I am not sure what caused it

Could it be a LCD connection problem or some thing faulty in that area? Definitely reinstall the stock driver again but use Driver Sweeper to clean it all out and reinstall in Safe Mode.

Someone had this issue. Just close the lid of ur laptop, wait for 1 minute, then reopen it. Everything should work fine then.

this will happen in vista and windows 7 occasionally. What you want to do is disable hibernation.

If it's what I think it might be, then you are closing the lid on the laptop, and after like 30min or whatever the setting is it wakes up, and goes into hibernation.

I've had that issue on just about every laptop I own... if i put it to sleep and try and wake it up a couple hours later it wont respond. Disabling hibernation has always resolved that intermittent issue.

If you close the lid, and only wait a few minutes before opening it again it works fine right, or are you having the issues no matter how long you wait? If you always have it happen then the video driver is probably to blame, or something you recently installed.

Let me elaborate just a bit. You want to disable the power scheme setting that makes your computer hibernate after a certain period of time. If you manually hibernate your computer it should be fine, it seems to just happen when the computer hibernates with the lid closed. It doesn't properly wake up the display. Thats why closing the lid and waiting a minute sometimes fixes it, as that is basicly just putting it back into standby, and then waking it again.

Yeah, Windows thing. Mine does that too. The screen will come back on but you can't click or do anything. Wait a few and it'll eventually wake out of it's coma.

I've had some problems with sleep mode on my M11x as well.

Usually occurs after the M11x has been in standby for a long while, wakes itself up and puts itself to sleep thus turning completely off. When I open the lid and press the power button to resume activity I will sometimes see just a blinking cursor in the upper left of the screen.

Sometimes I will see hard drive activity and it will stop but the screen will be completely black. I've tried to change between the dGPU and IGP and this occasionally works but not always. The login screen will be extremely slow to refresh and updates are on the order of several seconds before screen refreshes.

Other times my mouse cursor will appear with a black background and I can move the cursor around real time but nothing else appears.

Its almost like it doesn't know which GPU to enable or its conflicting between the two.

I've had to press and hold the power button to turn the laptop off because its been in this condition for more than 5 minutes and I want to actually use my laptop thats why I turned it on.

My friend is now reporting that he's having the same issue with his.

I am wondering if switching the display (forgot which FN key it is, F1 maybe? at work and can't test this out) where we can change it between Laptop display > Laptop / HDMI > HDMI to override this problem. Or if using the power button to put it into sleep instead of closing the lid would change this behavior at all. Also bypassing standby and put it directly into deep sleep, but this would be a hindrance to those who want to quickly wake their laptops up for use.
