I dont think either one of those because those are desktop CPU's and i doubt your motherboard would be able to handle those or even have the right die for it. As well as you would not have adequte cooling power going from a 2760qm to a desktop processor you would need more than likely a 3 pipe heat sink of the water coolin system(which isnt availiable YET).

Some laptops can hold those CPU's like cleavo sager but again im pretty sure that have a mini-motherboard which is just a smaller desktop mother board.
Aswell as im sure they have super cooling power.

but ya i think you could upgrade to the 3720qm no problem or 3820qm but you would need to replace your heat sink if going to the 3920xm if you are going to be overclocking that cpu.

You're going to have to replace the mobo to one compatible with ivy procs like the R2 - a feat that has yet to be accomplished

Those are desktop processors. They won't even fit in your laptop, let alone work.

Any processor that you could upgrade to is not available in retail. The only way you'd find one is on the likes of eBay. Your upgrade options are an i7 2860QM or an i7 2960XM, both of which will be very expensive.

Why do you want to upgrade, anyway? Do you need to? Assuming you're using it to play games, there are very few games out there that will be bottlenecked by your current processor.

Well the 2960XM is the best upgrade possible for the M18xR1. I just recently upgraded it. And it beats any of the non extreme processors released for the M18xR2.

If you don't insist on having an OEM chip, get a 2920XM from ShirleyFu on Ebay. ~$300. I paid $310 for mine two weeks ago. They're not always available though. You have to check every day, and have the money available.

You MUST get an XE dual pipe heatsink to go along with it though. I'm guessing you have a single pipe heatsink since you currently have a non-XM chip. While you're at it, you might as well get the the triple pipe Ivy-Bridge heatsink from an R2. If not, the dual pipe from an R1 works just fine. You can use the single pipe heatsink, but you won't be able to overclock much without hitting thermal shutdown.

The difference between the 2920XM and the 2960XM is negligible.

All the wisdom you need lies here: Mr. Fox's upgrade guide.

I just found this too. Speedy is selling his 2920XM OEM.
