Default Alienware M18x stolen...any way to track/recover it?

So its been 7 weeks since I ordered my M18x from Alienware. I know it was stolen en route because me and my friend ordered it at the same time (we're both deployed) and he got his about 3 weeks later.

I called Alienware but they just want me to wait up to 3 months...so they really wont do anything about it until the 12 week mark...which is BS.

Is there anyway I can somehow track how it was stolen...i mean, like can Alienware somehow track where it is via some type of gps or the computer's MAC address (Granted its been online).

    I dunno man....

    I hate USPS.

I have no experience with this matter, but my first instinct would be to call the police and see if that can get the ball rolling. They'll be the people with the right information on this matter.

I don't believe the m18x is offered with any form of GPS tracking, and trying to track down the MAC address as almost everyone uses NAT with their network.

    Good luck, mate!

For USPS, I'm not sure, but I know it is up to the sender to initiate a claim if something is stolen/lost en route for FedEx or UPS. In any case, claims usually take a long time.

As for tracking it, even if Dell had the mac address and had the capacity to track there is no way they're going to do anything about it. It's much easier and less risky for them to just write it off. Unless you can get AW to refund sooner, you're kind of SOL for a while.

No please excuse me while I play with my new m18x that fell off the back of that truck

Edit: That was cruel. Sorry man, that sucks.

Edit2: police likely won't do anything here (or even know how). Any case, they'd need to get a supoena for the mac address first...

I'm fairly sure that the police deal with stolen packages often enough, and know more how to deal with it than I'm sure most of us shall. It's not that a laptop was stolen, it's that an extremely valuable package worth 3k$ to 5k$ was stolen. Grand thief Alienware, but that doesn't change the fact that you should still file a police report, get it on the records that you're trying every possible way to get this issue resolved. The worst plausible outcome from the police is that they file a report for you, get it on file that Dell is, evidently, sitting on their thumbs (hint: Go find one of the many Dell people on this board. They'll likely start up a mob for you and find that laptop themselves, heh!) and you'll have it on file for any legal action you may need to take.

Hahahah, you should try this. Heck, if anything, you'd then get yourself an R2, and might even be able to talk yourself into getting an even larger discount (the return customer discount? Perhaps victim of thief discount? Heh heh). It's worth a shot, but I'd say try and track down Bill and see if he can help you out, as well as get a police report filed.

The MAC address won't do anything but to help identify the stolen computer once it's already in the hands of the police. The MAC address is in no way transmitted across the internet (at least in IPv4), so it cannot be used to actually find and track the machine.

How do you know its stolen? Does dells online tracking say it was delivered?

If your tracking number says delivered, but you dont have it, then maybe yes. But if its still in the mail, then, well as smoke skull said. Its stuck in customs.
