    Question M18x r1 GPU compatibility

Does 7970 crossfire work as a replacement to 6990 crossfire. The 7970 uses less power than the 6990 so it should work, right?

Actually, if the specs posted on Dell.com are correct, the 7970m is a huge bump in performance. I'd say 2x compared to the 6970m. The 7990m if it really comes with 1536 shaders, should be about 15-20% faster than the 7970m.

Yes, it should work in our M18xR1 machines and I'm one of those going for that upgrade.

could I get a link to where on dell.com it has the specs for the cards?

All I keep finding is leaked information everywhere about the ati line of cards... nothing official...

According to such specs the AMD has 60 GB/s more bandwidth of the NVIDIA one so at high resolution and lot of effect the AMD should perform better.

Does anybody know when we are going to see a 680M or 7990M?

Take 10% off of the HD 7870 benches to get an idea of the 7970m performance.

The 7970m should be available in the next few days (you can already configure a M17x with it). The 680M is slated for late June.

Kind of follow your advise and decided to get a m18x instead of the Clevo p270. how is the driver of Amd these days ? still buggy? my last amd card a 5870 give me all sort of problems.
