Default In direct x games screen turning black every few seconds

Guys, my m18x has started playing up pretty badly whenever playing a directx game - the screen flashes black every few seconds. What can I do?

    Thanks,
    Ian

To start with, you could try re-running the DirectX setup here and you may also want to consider re-installing your video drivers and updating if needed/required.........see if that resolves anything first before doing anything else.

Hi Stevie, thanks. I don't suppose you could tell me what the safest gfx drivers are? I have twin 6990s.

I have had no trouble with the most recent Drivers from AMD. Have you tried with crossfire off to see if it is a secondary card or crossfire cable issue? After that try calling Dell might need a few things replaced.

Not sure which driver version is the most stable right now for AMD 6990's - maybe you could take a look here or ask on that thread. If you try what lichensoul suggested, that could help rule out hardware failure.

I've seen this before as well. Not happening regularly, but every once in a while. No idea what's causing it.

I've just updated to the latest dell stable (12/8/11), but the problem persists. It's happening whenever the rendering is getting very intense - the frame rate is still perfect but it appears to completely black out the screen until it "cools down".

    Any advice?

What are your gpu temps when this happens? - maybe try monitoring the gpu's to see what is happening heat-wise with them as if they are overheating, it could be causing you problems. If you havent already, download gpu-z and leave two instances of it open whilst you game (one gpu-z window for each gpu) - then check to see what the max temps. were.....

    EDIT: ^^ as mentioned above.

Id try with crossfire turned off and see if you still have an issue. Good starting point.
