Re: Battlefield 3 (release version) on M18x - Discussion Thread
PLayed SP for about 3 hours yesterday before I boxed my M18X and sent it back to re-order. On Ultra settings I was getting 35-40fps, turned AA down to 2X and got about 40-45 and then turned AA completely off and was getting 45-50fps. Was running 11.9 w/cap 3 and radeon pro.
Great game though, Im thinking about getting it on console to tie me over till I can re-order another M18X. My kid really wants it for xbox 360 anyway.Alienware M18x Space Black | i7 2860QM | Dual Radeon HD 6990M CrossFire | 16GB HyperX 1866mhz | Dual 500gb Hybrid RAID 0 | Killer Wireless-N 1103 | Blu-ray | WirelessHD | Win 7 64 | Razer Naga

Lason, I believe there are known issues with CAP 3.
Also, has anyone tried overriding tesselation by turning it off in CCC? May help boost FPS. I'll try it when I get home, see how it looks and how it affects gameplay.Candy White (soon) Clevo X7200 | Desktop i7 980X 4.1GHz | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 485M SLI | 2x 256 GB SSD | 2x 1TB Internal HDD Drive | 24GB 1333MHz | 1920x1080 B+RG LED | Killer 1103 | USB 3.0 | Win 7 Ult | Linux Mint | NuForce uDAC-2 Audio | Blu-ray Burner (Converted to External) | Vantage: 30238 | 3DMark06: 26917 | 3DMark11: 7346

Eh whats the point? That's like buying a ferrari and trying to fit a Camry bodykit on it. I turned off AA and changed HBAO to SSAO and it increased FPS by 20; so that will give anyone blazing performance without sacrificing a huge amount of visual fidelity. I actually really like the tessellation in this game

Hmm, somone in the gaming section said that there was no tesselation in the game. But you are right, and I won't be doing it. At least not permanantly. Thats the reason I got 6990s
But I was wondering if it would infact boost FPS. I'll try it out just out of curiosity, but all it is is an experiment to see how it affects performance. It is a pretty sweet game thought. I havn't played FPS online in forever.

Wow; just goes to show what the eye is perceiving as tessellation then! I could have sworn the way the buildings and ground surfaces work that there is decent use of tessellation in the game.
With that though, "using application settings" for AMD probably will not be having any impact on FPS for tessellation but may be worth looking at for the heck of it. Still have to say this is the best looking game visually to date; but nothing extraordinary from a playing perspective. Relatively Ho Hum single player and multiplayer has a lot of work to do from a server standpoint.M18X Nebula RED | 2760QM 2.4ghz | 8GB PC1600mhz ram | NVIDIA 580M SLI |750GB | 18.4" FHD 1920 x 1080p | Intel 6200

Video Settings for Battlefield 3?
Hey all,
I have been playing BF3 since the release the other night and I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but I can't seem to break around 30-35fps even when I change my video settings from high to medium or anything!
My specs are below:
i7 2.2ghz (3.3ghz turbo boost)
4GB ram
nVidia GTX560m (1.5gb)
What settings in the video should I have off or turned down? Anyone have any suggestions I'd appreciate any feedback.
Thanks,
Chris
