Default AMD 6990 coming middle/end July:

Just been on the phone to a UK Dell rep and he confirmed to me that the two graphic card options coming to the m18x are the nvidia 560 and the amd 6990. He said the date will be middle to end of July for the 6990, i didn't ask the date of the nvidia 560 but i assume it will be introduced around the same time.

Just spoken to the same agent and i can confirm they are both in SLI & Crossfire configeration.

    Hope this helps guys.

The only place I've heard anything about the 6990m is on these forums.
Is there any hard info? As blackcomb xt is based on barts pro it potentially leaves room for a product based on barts xt but what?

I don't have any in depth info, what i know i've posted. To be fair, i don't see why a Dell agent would make up what he's told me, he has no reason to.

There should be a competitor for gtx580m, so i consider it as an obvious step from amd to follow nvidia's competition. In a few weeks x7200 from Clevo gains gtx580m sli in its config, so 6990m CF eventually follows next after nvidia launch!
Should be exposed in a bit...

Well without trying to sound pessimistic... I've had Dell reps flat out lie to me on several occassions. Before I was schooled on the screens, I had a rep tell me that the 1200p RGB screen had just a little better resolution than the stock 1080p WLED screen. I was on the phone and he was pushing me to buy and offered me a discount. I didn't have a chance to research it so I went with the cheaper option thinking that the 1080-1200 wasn't going to matter too much. Two days later I learn on here the difference in color and design of the two screens and I was beyond upset. I called him back and he hung up on me when I said I wanted it changed. I had to speak with two different people before they finally said it was already in production and couldn't be changed. They said I'd have to wait for it to arrive and then return it. When it arrived - I called to return it and the rep said I'd have to pay a restock fee and they couldn't honor the same discount if I purchased a new machine so I sat and stewed over it because money was tight. After my 21 day period passed and I started having major issues with the machine, I was looking into the return policy and found that he lied to me about the restock fee. There is no restock fee as long as it is returned in the 21 day period. I really got hosed and I will never forget that.

Granted... apples to oranges. Different circumstances... but point is - they do lie. These lies were just a couple of the many I have caught them in over the last 7 months.

On a lighter note - this does sound pretty cool though not sure I'd want to go with it right away and deal with all the "new" driver issues. :/

Mav i've just gone out of my way and posted info i have, i thought some people would find it helpful and all your doing is whinging, jesus.

The Dell rep i spoke to, i have been in contact with for a good few weeks as i have been considering getting the m18x, the rep has always been helpful and seems respectable enough. I asked him this question a couple of weeks ago about any upgrades, he told me he had no info available at this time. Today i spoke to him, he told me what i've posted. Reason i don't think he's lie'ing...Because i finally made the plunge today and purchased the laptop, before i purchased the laptop i asked him about future graphics cards and he told me, what he knew. He could have just said no, he a saleman at the end of the day he wants me purchasing now not in 4, 5, 6 weeks but he didn't he told me what dell are doing.

Honestly, I dont know how trustworthy reps are. When the m17x r3 came out, many people were curious if 4DIMM slots were available if you only went with the stock 4gb (2x2gb). Many reps said you had to order at least 8 gbs of RAM to get all 4 DIMM slots.

Not that I'm dissing your rep or anything; all of my reps have been fairly knowledgable and helpful.

People in the tech department are the ones that have the best idea on what dell plans on heading in the future. So your rep may be totally right, and the 6990m and 560m may be just around the corner. However, I would take this with a grain of salt. Other people have had reps say similar things to tpeople of here before, and I lost count of how many predictions just failed right out (m18x/m14x release date, m11x r3 release date, 485m in m17x r3, etc. etc.)

I'm whining? Seriously? I sure hope you don't have any issues when your system has problems, but when/if you do - I'll be the first person to be there and help walk you through the nightmare. Free of charge.

Besides, I don't see how I was whining when I simply made a comment about how these reps are NOT all honest. I wasn't bagging on you or anyone else but the people that lied to ME. Call it whining if you want, you inconsiderate brat. But if you want to start calling names and/or getting rude... how about you NOT spread unfounded rumors. I could honestly care less, but if I'm simply "whining" then you're simply spreading rumors. Anyone could make that information up. So do us all a favor and get real, k?

I'm a whiner, lol... some of you "holier than thou" people really just could care less about the world around you or what others are going through. You said you couldn't think of a reason why the guy would lie... well, I just gave you two reasons. Sit and spin buddy. Sit and spin.
