The 28nm mobile parts are set in stone, for Q1 of 2012. This is for AMD and Nvidia.

There's no point in discussing how 500M or the XTX will affect 28nm, because they won't, at all.

Any new 40nm cards won't affect 28nm mobile's roadmap, although the other way around is certainly possible

There is already a thread on getting "reference" drivers from AMD to work in the "brand new" M18x's. No need to go into it, that says enough right there.

i guess 28nm mobile parts will come in late q2 or early q3 2k12 as very little spoilers going on and also supply matters when first 40nm came the production was very little so it will happen with 28nm as well

i really really wish it 580ms and 6990ms dont delay the 28nm parts because they are already very powerful and can max out any game except metro2033 and probably battlefield 3

if 580m = downclocked 560 ti and 6990 = downclocked 6870

the 28nm flagship might very well perform slight downclocked gtx 570 and downclocked 6950/6970?? raises the bar more higher

the current 485m/6970m how does it perform in metro 2033 at

1080p, aaa, tess on, dof off, physics off, very high/high in dx 11 settings??

For AMD 28nm has been taped out. Desktop parts will be out for sale before the end of the year, and mobile parts will launch at CES 2012. Expect a few notebooks to start selling them in March-April 2012. That's the way it always is for AMD. Early rumors are that Wimbledon will be 25% faster than Blackcomb.

A mid-series kicker card has also been traditional, though last year there wasn't one for the HD5000M.

Pion2099 hit it dead on for me, I like to buy a new laptop every 2 - 3 years. SO I will wait for a month if it means 5xx series instead of year old 4xx series.

Of course the other great thing I am looking forward to in ALienware is upgrading over time...

I don't mind waiting till end of June just to see "what's up" and also to see the first of the kinks get worked out. I don't buy a machine like this all that often, best to get it right.
5xx series and RGBLED are on the wishlist - but don't really know if either will be solved by then. Have to see.

I have been talking to a dell rep and he just sent me an e-mail saying that he will contact me on monday with information on the M18x I want to order plus information on a 'new video card' they might be up pretty soon I guess.
here's the exact line from the email:
'we are experiencing a server update and my discount tool still down, as soon as I have the information I will let you know, including the new Video Card!'
