That much I do know .

Currently I'm trying to get my hand on an M18x 330W PSU. I have two 240W PSU's but I think getting a 330W would be easier. My plan is to take a 240w PSU, Find the ID code chip, and find somone to desolder it and resolder it on to the 330W PSU, after removing that chip. That would be the cleanest and easiest route I think.

Even so, my CPU scores will suffer compared to Sandy Bridge, so my overall scores will not come close, but it will definately be fun!

    @John - Nice!

    So Johnksss,

Now that you've had time to totally brutalize your ES chip, benchmark wise, across the board, how would you say the 2920XM+BIOS OC compares to the 920/940XM with Throttlestop across the board with many benchmarks?

Electrosoft, why keep your desktop at this point?

Just curious haha since your M18x could eat it for breakfast

going to have to say....the 920 was allot of fun, but the 2920 has far more to offer with less watts. we get past that and this thing will soar on any cpu bench. and more so with single and dual core apps. (personal opinion only)
but in the end..both chips are worth their weight in gold.

Ehhh, John did alright with the 920xm

John is right, Sandy Bridge is a lot more efficient. The 920/940 are still beats though. In a way, more flexible than SB. Mostly because you can play with FSB, multiplier, and TDP. You can really fine tune then speed for benching to ride the edge of stability. SB is huge though. Can't wait to see Ivy bridge.

lol, because I'm going to throw a 580 or 590 in it and ride it out till ivy.

Or I could break it down, sell it for parts and use my M18x till Ivy and then rebuild from the ground up.

I figured John had totally ripped the 920xm top to bottom, and now that he's had a chance to put his foot in the 2920xm, it would be good to get some feedback since he goes the extra mile on his laptops.

That's a cool idea, looking forward to seeing the results. Should be an easy solder job when you can identify the chip.

Yea its good because he has used both chips. John and i traded blows for a while with the 920xm. Check out Hardware news, Overclocking Competitions, Reviews and search 920xm. You can see our results. Pretty neat stuff.

    thanks guys!

and as for the 920xm or the 5870.. i never ran them at negative zero temps.....now i wish i had..

right now im still just copper and ac but for the most part can keep up with just benching off the table as is.

and a good time was had between me and dr650se...we use to be up late night talking about what could and couldn't be done...lol and that goes for scook9 as well.
