There are still plenty of parts that can get damaged or jostled loose by an especially bad bump or even just the constant vibration.

They all fall under the same category of controlling the environment around the laptop.
meh... still seems a bit OTP. Laptops are designed to be traveled with. The only thing that's dangerous is if the laptop is ON while vibrating it. And everything is screwed down so I don't know what part(s) youre talking about :/. Trains, planes and cars all vibrate more heavily than a luggage carrier...

They are certainly designed for just that. Doesn't mean that subjecting a laptop to potential damage is a smart thing to do for the machine's health. All one is doing by placing it in a rolling bag/suitcase is adding another risk factor. Will it break every time? Of course not. But it certainly doesn't make it any safer.

Just because it's screwed down and secured doesn't make it immune to damage. Shake something hard enough or apply enough constant vibration/bumping and things are going to go badly for the machine.

They can but isn't the case all the time, especially to those inside the vehicles. Planes are especially smooth most of the time. Cars have shock absorbers. Trains can be a little iffy but overall are pretty smooth. In all cases people can use their laptops just fine while traveling in any of these vehicles. It's not the same as being strapped down in a suitcase on plastic wheels with zero shock absorption.

Anywho, do what ya want and be a little reckless with your expensive machine. It's your machine after all.

    That's what she said.

In other news, I just ordered the Tenba Shootout Pro Large bag. If the dimensions are correct it will fit the M18x and my DSLR equipment I'm surprised I'm the only one thinking baout a bag that will carry everything known to man! The bag is a little pricey, but the reviews are through the roof for it and being able to carry everything at once is pretty nice.

Looks more like a jetpack to me. But for $200 it better fly me somewhere.

I've thought about going the camera bag route as well for the large pocket (still looking for something that can also hold my Case Logic SLRC-205 in the large compartment) since most backpack's I've notice have smaller folder slots.

Unfortunately, most camera bags aren't made for 18" laptops. Let us know how the Tenba works out and how the laptop compartment is.

    Thanks!!

I can confirm that the Targus XL can fit the m18x. It sits an inch out of the laptop sleeve but it can zip up. Once it zips up, there is about an inch of room in between the laptop and the top zipper. This backpack seems pretty decent especially since it only costs $55.00 . Pictures coming soon.

I RMA'd my Orion along with the M18x. I am looking for a more ergonomic shoulder system with wider and better padded straps. There was much to like about the Orion, but I am back to the drawing board. I need to re-read this thread in hopes of finding a more heavy-duty solution. I would get the Tenba if it fully accommodates the M18x, but I have my doubts.

This looks decent but I think Oakley describes it as a 17in pack?
