    Default Display assembly

Hello all, new user here. Quick question, I just got this M17x r4 and was dumb enough to try to save 150 and got the system with the 17.3-inch WideHD+ 1600 x 900 60Hz WLED. I SHOULD have went with the 17.3-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED instead and have been beating myself up about it for the last 2 or 3 months since I've had this. The screen doesn't look too bad, but I'm looking to get a new display assembly with the 1920 x 1080.

Can someone point me in the right direction? I've tried to contact dell, but they have been giving me the run around and keep on referring me to different departments.

Find an Alienware rep in the forums. Their handles always start with "Alienware_". PM them and they'll hook you up. It's better to get the LCD thru AW then getting it off eBay, just in case the replacement doesn't show up complete (with all necessary parts), or doesn't work right. You pay more with AW, but it's worth it.

Meh I've looked into it as well in the past for my r3, and they quoted me $700. bit to expensive for my taste.

Well, then your best bet is to search google using the part number for the WHOLE assembly...not just the LCD. You should get the whole kit complete so all's you have to do is unplug the screen and unscrew the hinges. If you just get the screen itself you will go crazy trying to disassemble and reassemble the LCD panel.

Good choice. I don't think you can get the 1080 display assembly for less than $300.

Next month I'm gonna get a new LCD and I'll create a good tutorial how to replace the LCD panel. Although there are some here in the forum none are comprehensive and with good photos.
I'll do it on R2, but I don't think R3 is much different (the LCD panel at least). Afterwards you can order a new one for 100$ and with patience and carefulness you'll do it also.
Think before you act! In 99% of the case it will save you a lot of headaches

I'm interested, but I hope it stays low risk. I don't wanna have a chance of breaking my screen or something.

Thanks all for the suggestions! I'll try to find an Alienware rep on here. Hopefully it won't be more than 300-400 or so. If not, then I may go ahead and get an external monitor and just set it up that way when I'm playing games. I wish I could go back in time!!....stupid stupid mistake on my part! Ah well...
