need help, fans stop working
Hi, recently I get a lot of blue screen which i don't know what have caused it. Until now I figured out that the fan on the right side stop spinning when the laptop is on. So i guess the high temperature cause the system to shut down or reboot.
I have attempted several things:
1. updated BIOS from A3 to A10 (didn't help)
2. reinstalled Window 7 (didn't help)
3. swap the right side fan with left side, it works, so I assume the 4pin connector on the motherboard might have problem.
4. swap the left side fan to the right side, still not working.
I want to fix this problem before calling Dell for assistance because it might take them forever to come down here I assume.
Any suggestion or help would be very appreciated!

Re: need help, fans stop working
If you tried switching the fans and both fans work on one side and not the other it indeed looks like a problem with the connector. If that's the case you're going to need a new motherboard and you're going to have to contact Dell to send a tech over to replace the motherboard for you.
Although they may be due to either your faulty motherboard and/or overheating, I can help you with your bluescreens if you zip and upload your dump files from C:\Windows\Minidump\Alienware M17x R3 Stealth Black | i7-2920XM OEM | 460M | Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1600 | 256GB Corsair Performance Pro | 320GB HDD | 1920x1080 60HZ | Intel 6300 | G700 | Blackwidow Ultimate | SF-19 USB 3.0 (Modified)

If i want to use my laptop i need to turn on a regular fan on high speed and point directly to my laptop, so it won't overheat. I think I will contact dell. thanks for replies.
I recently reinstalled window, so I don't think there is anything left over? In fact, I haven't even install all the drivers yet
because I am using my other laptop, MSI GT 683R

Re: need help, fans stop working
I just want to express my feeling toward Dell tech support. I told them that I reinstalled Window by myself, and also have swapped the fans to test it, and the agent told me that I DISQUALIFIED for the warranty. Is this a joke? I was be honest with them. I swear I would never buy any Dell product again. This is very ignorant when they say stuff like this. I was explaining that I was testing the fan so it makes it easy for them to troubleshooting the issue for me, instead he said "unfortunately, you are disqualified for warranty for modifying the hardware". My experience is that Dell does not want to waste time and money fixing problems due to laptop hardware failure. Dell sting so much!
At the end of the day, the agent offers me to send my laptop to the repair center with free of cost including shipping and handling after I said that I have not modify any hardware or do any damage.
