Don't get too excited about their status updates. I think mine showed up a day or two early.

    Great looking system though

Ah, I'm not, I'm not. Just know that whenever I order something, even if it's a farfetched date, it usually comes before that, even if only a few days early.

Also thanks! Planning to use an SSD as well that I'll be buying elsewhere to keep some of the larger games like BF3 and such on. Looking forward to smooth gaming.

    Default Alienware M17x R4

When TRUEfoe was interested in the 3D so he asked Alienware it, and they responded with this for the AAFES website,

TRUEfoe: Hey Alienware, any idea when the M17xR4 120hz w/ 3D model will be available at the AAFES Military Promotion Alienware Site? Right now it's not showing as chooseable. Should I continue to wait for it to appear?

Alienware: Yes, sorry about it taking a bit of time to show up on the MPP/Military sites but they will be going up soon. I'd wait just a bit longer. (Especially to make sure that you get an Ivy Bridge processor as well) _DC1

So here's for hoping the Ivy Bridge processor shows up soon.

Also i7_M18x, did you notice on the AAFES site that they have this item listed twice for some reason.. Don't really understand why one is listed at $200.00 more...

Alienware M17X R4 with Soft Touch [add $200.00]

I am a USMC vet and just placed my M17xr4 via AAFES via Dell Rep Cory @ 800-695-8138.

    My method:

I wanted to order using my AAFES card but there wasn't any option for 120 Hz 3D and the two options for Alienware Soft Touch confused me, just like site members a couple post above. So I called Dell -> Cory

First to verify that I was with AAFES, was just create a simple(default) configuration and add it to you cart, then e-mailed him my shopping cart's link.

    He hooked me up with a 2K dell card @ 0% 1yr
Specs same as i7 M18 specs but with GTX card. I also sacrificed a couple things:

    Processor: i7 2670QM
    Memory:8 GB
    HDD: 1TB w/o SSD cache

    Some Added Value:
    1yr Advance Warranty
Received 5% ($125) Dell Gift Card
    120Hz 3D Combo Pack
No Tax and Free 2nd Day Shipping

Total Price: ~$2463.89 (Unfortunately, cannot use StarCard)

If the Ivy i7s are out at end of week, I will change CPU to higher if possible. I'll use the Dell gift card for something worthy.

Let me know what You guys think or should do. Thanks.

Hey wassup!! Cory (Dell Rep) said that was an AAFES website error (2nd option is the Red) They're both are the same cost. Just select the first option, then scroll down and you will see the choices of Red or Black Soft Touch. Select the Radio buttons.

Hope this helps anyone especially AAFES/Dell Premier members

Sorry to ask again but does anyone know what discount this guy used? I configured the same machine and it was like $2500 before taxes. I have a student discount and that saves like $50 at most.

Sorry I was off air for a few days , day job kicking my axx. I actually made the build then started a chat , then got on the phone with them and just politely negotiated with them .
I do have a good line of credit with them and have purchased a number of high end systems from them before . So I am sure this helped . I also signed up for the Dell advantage for free and that saved me a couple more points. I have since canceled this order and I am going to wait for the Ivy Bridge option and try and get a 120Hz screen as an option but with the 7970m video card . Dell rep did acknowledge in a chat that it should be soon and would say know more than that . I was really surprised that they were even willing to comment or say that much . Hope this helps.

Just be aware, you can't run a 120hz screen with the 7970m...the motherboards are hard wired to only accept nvidia cards with the 120hz, your computer wouldn't even turn on with an AMD card in there

If I could get similarly speced M17x R4 or P170EM (Clevo) does anyone know what's the AW screen compared to stock Clevo/Sager one?
