Re: Nvidia WHQL driver 285.62
I'll look into that when I get home this evening or earlier if I have some time, I see where the error is.

Re: Nvidia WHQL driver 285.62
if u used Kaitlyn's mod and it didn't work you could always try this. Just download the modded inf and place it in the file normally and it should work. hope this helps

Re: Nvidia WHQL driver 285.62
Try these, also tell me if audio thru HDMI works (if you can test), i'm not home and did these quick so you can at least get them installed and continue from here.
Make sure to uninstall previous ones, reboot when prompted, clean registry and choose custom install and perform clean install
Let me kniow how it goes.

Re: Nvidia WHQL driver 285.62
Well, this time when I did it, it got to about the same point, then my screen went black for 3 or 4 minutes. When it came back, same error message as before. Also, Windows asked me twice to verify that I wanted to install these drivers because it claims it couldn't verify who produced them.

Re: Nvidia WHQL driver 285.62
I still am getting a failure and crash out when it tries to install the nvidia control panel. I wish the damned thing could give me a log so I can figure out what exactly is going wrong.

Re: Nvidia WHQL driver 285.62
This is what worked for me to get the 285.62 'installed' (R1 with 260M SLI). Note I had a black screen during install, waited a long while before force shutdown, but it installed, see earlier post on page 4). Someone else installed the same way without any trouble. So executing procedure is at your own risk (procedure only suitable for 260m, don't know ids of 280m).
1. Execute downloaded 285.62 driver and let it unpack (cancel after hw incomp blabla)
2. Go to C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\285.62\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver
3. Open ListDevices.txt:
lookup this line
DEV_0617&SUBSYS_019C1028 "NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTX"
and add this line below
DEV_0618&SUBSYS_02A11028 "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M"
lookup this line
DEV_0862&SUBSYS_02711028 "NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G"
and add this line below
DEV_0862&SUBSYS_02A11028 "NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G"
4. Save ListDevices.txt
5. Open nvdm.inf
lookup this line
%NVIDIA_DEV.0617.01% = Section007, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0617&SUBSYS_019C1028
and add this line below (note: this is our hw id, but you can't just copy the line from a previous version like 280.26 because apparently nvidia changed the section nr to be applied. same goes for next additions)
%NVIDIA_DEV.0618.01% = Section007, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0618&SUBSYS_02A11028
lookup this line
%NVIDIA_DEV.0617.01% = Section008, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0617&SUBSYS_019C1028
and add this line below
%NVIDIA_DEV.0618.01% = Section008, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0618&SUBSYS_02A11028
lookup this line
NVIDIA_DEV.0617.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTX"
and add this line below
NVIDIA_DEV.0618.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M"
lookup this line
%NVIDIA_DEV.0862.01% = Section027, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0862&SUBSYS_02711028
and add this line below
%NVIDIA_DEV.0862.02% = Section027, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0862&SUBSYS_02A11028
lookup this line
%NVIDIA_DEV.0862.01% = Section028, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0862&SUBSYS_02711028
and add this line below
%NVIDIA_DEV.0862.02% = Section028, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0862&SUBSYS_02A11028
lookup this line
NVIDIA_DEV.0862.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G"
and add this line below
NVIDIA_DEV.0862.02 = "NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G "
6. Save nvdm.inf
7. run installer again. I did clean install and only installed drivers + physics (no 3d stuff). Again, my screen went black and I waited 'enough' time for disk activity to cease. I'm not guaranteeing anything, but if you have a good backup, it's worth the try. I earlier made the mistake myself by not taking care of the correct 'sections' mentioned in the lines. In that case I was able to restart in safe mode and uninstall nvidia drivers and install previous version again.
