Ditto! I would have loved to bench the QX9300 on dice.

And get those GPU clocks higher! 915/1230

I think that voltage was the problem more than temps on the QX9300. Because 4.33 would just crash at 1.5V which was all I could give it. I ran at 4.16 with 1.5V and temps were not out of control. I think I saw 65c max in the freezer and that was without fan control. If HWInfo32 fan control works it can get much colder

Yea, very true. Probably wouldn't have made much difference. The thing I like about using dice, is that it keeps the components cold enough, that the fans never spin. Therefore, when dealing with a 240w adaptor, it means that you free up a few watts for more GPU headroom. Though I'm not so sure I'll put the 6990's on dice, at least not until I get some more gummy eraser to be sure no condensation can get through. I think that may have been what killed a set of my 5870's

I locked myself in a wine cellar for the whole 3 hours to achieve those score ( at about 12 Degrees , i thinks ) and these CPU temp

That's why I don't dare push it higher . What you're asking me is not only to kill my system , but to kill its owner as well . And I think the scook is right , it is the thermal design power that locks out the Qx9300 , not the tempature. Come to think of it , why is the Qx9300 has a TDP of 45W but , the 920Xm's is 55W , is it a little bit unfair ?

Notice I've just killed all the R3 with my R1 =))

The extremes of the Core 2 generation on the desktop were lower wattage as well. It is just not as power hungry an architecture. Keep in mind that there is no memory controller included in that TDP number. The higher IPC of Nehalem comes from a new core design that uses more transistors leading to higher power use. And those 55W chips are regularly being pushed north of 100W when overclocked haha

Is that 12f or 12c? Because your temps are definitely too high. Have you repasted the CPU?

It is 12 C , I chose the warmest place in the cellar . Is the temp too high ? . Well , I didn't repaste the CPU ever since I had bought the system ( almost year now )

Funny you mention that scook, lastnight I was benching and my CPU I had pulling just over 112w.

Also Dannyboy, you might want to readjust the screws for your CPU heatsink while running wPrime 1024 and monitor temps. Having the screws to tight can sometimes warp the heatsink the slightest bit, giving it a concave shape and you lose the max surface area on the CPU die, which in turn reduces heat transfer.

But as scook said, your temps are too high. A repase would be good to do.

I would repaste and get colder. 12c aint that cold.....at least not as far as "extreme" cooling goes hehe.

My chest freezer was about 0f which is about -18c ambient. So I am starting out 30c colder than you right off the bat.

I also had decent results benching on my front porch in the winter when it was about 10-15f outside.
