In Program Files (x86/64) there yet another ATI Technologies folder.

Which one of these can you delete after installing CCC? o_O I must know...
The folders in your root directory are the drivers and installation files that get unpacked for installation. If you are running low on disk space, you should be able to delete those folders and their contents.

Leave the other files and folders alone (in both Program Files directories) as these contain AMD software applications (such as CCC).

I used the dell driver and did the vbios update to A01 with all of the driver sweeps before..
Now I went into Safe Mode and done another driver sweep(s) to until there are no ATI stuff. Then I ran the CClean and removed everything (except HL2 extensions and things like that - .bsp, .dem, .dap etc) and there was no sign of ATI/AMD but the Driver Manager still showed that I am using the dell driver (8.763). so I've decided that it might not matter because stevie isn't here and I won't get any help for now.. =/

andddd... I downloaded the last version (of something) from AMD's site (yes, to my specific GPU and OS etc).
I opened the file I just finished downloading, it created a new folder in C:\ called AMD.

I entered that folder and opened the .exe there and it created a new folder called ATI. It also opened an installer for the catalyst [automatically] and I had to select a language, press next -> select between install or uninstall, I selected install... -> this window disappears and nothing happened, no new folder of ATI/AMD in program files/start menu, no new CCC.exe somewhere.
and then I don't have any driver yet because I deleted it to install a new one which I couldn't even install.
So I tried manually installing the drivers as I did with the dell one (8.763) but I had no success when windows told me my drivers were up to date. (:O?)

So for now, I just installed the dell drivers from C:\dell\drivers\packages\drivers\ and windows chose the drivers from this folder.. (like before, that worked and GPU-Z indicated it, look at my thread please)

So now I already removed this fail install of Catalyst and I'm gonna start again.

Do I need to install the Bios A10 before I try installing Catalyst and changing to a newer driver from ATI, and NOT dell. -??-

so... please can someone help me.. =/

source144, I'm not sure why this is becoming such a complicated ordeal. After cleaning out all the old drivers and software with Driver Sweeper and CCleaner, simply running the Catalyst setup package should complete everything automatically for you. I'm not sure what steps you are are getting off track with. You should not need to browse to folders anywhere or manually run an executable file.

I would recommend installing the A10 BIOS, but it is not going to have any effect on your ability to install the latest AMD Catalyst package.

Check out this link and try installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 redistributable patch. Then repeat all of the cleaning and installation steps.

i do not think i uninstalled everything correctly. lets put it this way, when i rebooted from safe mode the first time i do not think i was in VGA graphics bec/ my resolution was 1600x1200. the one i missed the first time was going to device manager and manually uninstalling the display devices. after that, it worked.

    cheers!

I think this happens when you have uninstalled drivers, and rebooted normally. Windows will search and update your drivers, hence not being back at VGA. I recall the same issue when I would reboot normally and before I had the chance to do anything, windows had updated my drivers for me, which obvioulsy, I didnt want! - I just wanted to be back at Standard VGA to allow a clean install of the new drivers.

I have a clean install on my system now and find that I do not have to worry about this issue. If and when I want to uninstall an old driver and install a new one, I simply uninstall as per the procedures on page 1, then when I reboot normally, after uninstalling, I just get standard VGA drivers right away.
