I honestly thought the R3 would have 480 SLI.

You'd rather it have 470M SLI over 480M SLI, believe me.

    Glad I didn't sold my M15x for M17x R2.

Actually some of the pics look 16:9 to me. Hopefully the 16:10 RGB can still be put in (the early news said it would still be an option on the R3).

The bigger touchpad is not so good for those of us who type with palms that always set off touchpads (bad thing). The M6500 size is just good enough. They should have kept to no bigger than that. Not a dealbreaker though. As was said above, it's what is inside that counts.

No Expresscard? That's not good, imo.

USB 3? Don't see it but hard to be sure.

Why in the world wouldn't you get rid of analog VGA? This is 2011, not 1999. Should have used the space too put in triple mini displayport so these things could run Eyefinity Or at least throw in DVI like every other video card on the planet.

Designwise I like the old slightly better, but I'll get used to this new one. The lighting and the huge trackpad make it look a bit lopsided, but don't really mind. Black and red seems to cover it for me.

Could be really sad if 16k was a single 460M and 20k was CF 6870's. SLI 570/580 could be fun if it doesn't arrive 6 months late.

I also note they were running 3 different CPU cores. All look very nice.

Take a look at some of the pics of the M15x and how much space there is around the screen.. Especially the top and bottom ..
    M15x

    R3

    M17xR2

Not saying for sure it's one or the other but I see about as much difference in the space around the screen between the M15x and R3 as there is between the R3 and the M17xR2.

Being an M15X would also explain why there's no side vents.

They already can run eyefinity, as I am right now. Not everyone has a displayport monitor, so having multiple of that same one just means more dongles. Personally I had problems with the DP to DVI so I ended up using 2 of the 3 displays as VGA anyway, and they look awesome.

@Phinagle You can still see the bottom of the bezel is larger on the M15x before it meets the screen and the screen is much taller in the pics of the new machine even if the image looks a little distorted..

The screen still seems to be 16:10 .

Some of this stuff could very well be place holder materials before it go's into final production ..

Also the side vents might be gone but the pic i took earlier zoomed in shows a much more open exhaust on the back of the machine which would be why there are no gills on the side of the machine now..
