Our Greek friend is right. Windows 7 and dual Radeons are a mess. In Vista it was 99% with the occasional yellow spike.

I am going to mess around with drivers a bit to see if I can solve it.

[update] not getting any stuttering in music with visualizations on. I am going to play some games and see what happens. I'll also do the Stamatisx test.

i wouldnt say its a mess actually as there is no audio stuttering but those spikes (until 6K) you show are very often. But as Dell-Bill said those spikes are not thought to be issues from the Dell point of view.

Its true that they have more important things to solve (chipset, osd, bios) but their expensive gpus dont deal good with OS. thus as nvidias (with their new driver) deal good with 3rd party apps like adobe reader and firefox i would say its a gpu driver issue more than the third party apps themselves. I also proved using gpuz that those red spikes are accompanied by gpu clocks going up.

i actually dont expect anything to be honest as they dont even take them into account.

you dont have anything to lose but its the same with all drivers to date

what did you do to produce those red spikes?

I would say it is a mess, this is a pic of mine idle. Listening to music is disgusting. I really feel bad for anyone that wasn't/isn't able to get a replacement...

well here is mine during idle and playing flac files ( specific song 1083kbps!)

    http://i43.tinypic.com/erdic6.jpg

1)browsing even if it is firefox or IE 2)switching, resizing windows 3)scrolling pdf files. this is where my red spikes start. i used to do format every week installing the drivers as i should. the result was always the same and red spikes caused under the same circumstances.

Dell-Bill is Dell finally going to keep an eye on ATI driver issues?

Very odd - you both have an R1 - both have ATIs, yet ndudsz shot of the checker while listening to an MP3 shows some latency.

    Aristotel's looks clean.

Weird. You should compare notes on driver install, etc.

Batboy red spikes during idle are related to chipset from my point of view.

the rest have to do with the gpu driver. Have a look at my second screenshot on my previous post. i just uploaded it. and please tell me what you see because what i am saying here is that upclocking of the ATIs also can cause red spikes on R1. if this was solved on the nvidias why not on the ATIs? i cant understand...

as for the drivers installation process i follow the dell recommended order adding that i use the nvidia controller remover fix just after installing the nvidia chipset driver. then osd. as for the ATI driver i install the r2 driver and then 10.2 or 10.3 and then go on to the rest drivers. the rest drivers as described by dell.

What I am saying is that you two should compare notes. ndudsz's screenshot is during playback, yours is during playback. He is idle, you are idle.

or, perhaps I have looked at this way too much and am tired.

Actually, now that I read his post again, he is stating it is a screencap of idle - he actually does not state he is listening to music.

Oh well. My apologies for the mix up.

yes i got your point. my point is that their chipset is crap and replacement is their only solution. thats all.

did you see my second screenshot?

    http://i40.tinypic.com/15xkaww.jpg

    what do you see ?

and i have much more examples to give you. red spikes ALWAYS accosiated with gpu clocks go up.
