So does this mean i should call and harass Dell/AW over the throttling/stuttering I'm seeing? I really only notice it when I have anything OC'd, but I've maybe noticed it a couple of times with everything stock after i added a 2nd HD. I don't even have the quad core, im using a t9600, yet it still happens.

Up to you. Are you on BIOS A03 or A04? You're the only one I'm aware of that doesn't have a quad core and sees this.

A03. Like i said, it's mostly when i OC though. Should it not be happening to me even then with the c2d? When I get a chance I'll do some more thorough testing, but it has definitely happened to me many, many times. FPS will drop below 10 and then slowly work it's way back up. At first I thought it had something to do with ATI drivers and smoke effects (I actually made a thread on the forum about it), since most of the time it would happen would be after a big explosion in games like BC2, JC2 or ME2, but then I found this thread.

If you are still under warranty, I would not waste time troubleshooting yourself. Just call Dell and let them troubleshoot. It could be bad GPU, bad crossfire cable, bad MB, or all of it together.

Im certain it's CPU clock modulation. The chances of it happen go up significantly the more I OC the CPU. What happens also fits the description. The framerate hits rock bottom, and then appears to work its way back up in steps.

I had this quite often in ME one. Hop in the Mako, fire the cannon when zoomed in, and massive slow down. What solved the problem for me was reinstalling the ATi drivers. Did Dell's and then 10.3. Now I have no issues at all. Just saying.

You could also check to make sure your powersaving isn't on (had massive stutter and then realized the power was unplugged).

Finally, make sure it's running in XFire.

Seems like our system config is nearly identical...

Well ive system restored a couple of times since i got this thing, have used multiple driver versions also.

Like i said, it seems correlated to my CPU OC. Ima do some testing and see if i can catch it in action.

    Webb,

The R2 with a single 5870 will throttle both the GPU and the chipset with a 150 watt, stock adapter.

I can lock the GPU with the AMD tool, and cpu with throttlestop; but why should we have to?

With the 240 watt, throttling goes away.

Of course this was with Furmark and Prime95 running.

You're right in that there should be zero throttling with this platform.

I'm really anxious to see how a CF 5870 set up with RAID is going to work out.

That's the symptoms. Hmm. ThrottleStop and/or RightMark will definitely show you if you're seeing the same problem.
