M15x - Clicks and turns off, won't restart. Please help!
Hey guys,
Last night I was using my laptop, nothing out of the ordinary, just some web surfing and playing Eve. When all of a sudden I heard a click and my computer instantly shut off. I did the power-drain trick, which didn't help. After that I reseated the HDD and the computer rebooted. It was on for about 5 minutes before I heard the click and it shut off again. Since then I have taken out the motherboard battery, but I still can't boot the computer.
The power supply has a solid blue ring, as normal. The alien head power-button doesn't light up when connected to the power supply, but if I remove the power supply it has a faint red glow (I set it to go red on battery, blue on power).
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!M15X-i7 920xm es -8GB ram-5850-1080p-250 HDD (which is almost full)

I wasn't monitoring temperatures at the time it crashed, but I do monitor temperatures often and they're always good. Also, the fact that it won't boot up tells me it's not a temperature issue as it's all cold now. Thanks for the reply, though, I appreciate the help. (:

well, heat could damage smth, isn't it? So it doesn't matter if it is cold now.
But yeah, all is possible here. Most likely new mobo or gpuEven genius without a proper knowledge can be mislead

Re: M15x - Clicks and turns off, won't restart. Please help!
I'm pretty sure it's not a heat problem, as I always keep my fans clean. I have repasted cpu and gpu. I agree it's possibly a mobo problem. :/ Is there any reason why you think it might be a heat issue ? I'm hoping someone more experienced than me can shed some more light onto this as I really can't afford a new mobo. Thanks again for the help! I really do appreciate it, I'm pretty lost without my pc.

Re: M15x - Clicks and turns off, won't restart. Please help!
there is no exact reason. just shot in a dark because overheating is very popular in laptops. And also you said that you were able to boot it for couple seconds after first shut off.
But... are you sure that AC adapter is working? Is it possible that battery is drained and AC power is not charing it?Even genius without a proper knowledge can be mislead

My question is, do you know where the click sound come from?
in my experience, only HDD can produce clicking sound, and when it clicking, it normally dying...

Re: M15x - Clicks and turns off, won't restart. Please help!
well Im really not sure where the click came from. I had headphones set as the default audio device when i heard the click...Im not sure if that eliminates the speaker of the sauce of the click or not, Im just giving as much info as i can .
The ac adapter Im not totally sure its working just the info i gave in the op makes me thing its ok. if i plug the ac power into the laptop whiles the battery is removed, then i get the power button to glow blue, just twice then it goes off. If i have the battery in and not the ac power then it just stays red and if i have ac power plugged in and the battery in its blank no matter what.
The HDD im going to test that now...but to be honest i dont know how to test it in another computer... i only have desktops i can plug it into and iv never tried anything like that before. is it easy. Thanks again for all your help guys.M15X-i7 920xm es -8GB ram-5850-1080p-250 HDD (which is almost full)
