Whats "PeerNet" for?
Hello,
I have a Dell Wireless WLAN 1520 Half MiniCard.
Also, by using this driver:
Drivers and Downloads
I got installed the PeerNet.
So, questions:
- What is it for?
- Is it necessary?
- Can I remove it?
- How do I remove it?
- Can I stop the service? The app? (From MSCONFIG.EXE)
Thanks!

Re: Whats "PeerNet" for?
Nothing to worry about. I can see why you would be curious after finding a program folder named 'PeerNet'

Probably came as part of a Windows update I suspect.
Convert to JPEG, Convert to TIFF, Convert to PDF - PEERNET Inc.

Re: Whats "PeerNet" for?
No, is something for making my notebook an Access Point... Or something like that (as far as I can understand from the Help).
Is something from Dell not from a PDF convert company.
Ideas?Alienware M15x | Cosmic Black | i7 740QM | NVIDIA GTX 460M | 8GB DDR3-1333 | 1920x1080 WLED | Blu-ray

Re: Whats "PeerNet" for?
It's a peer-to-peer network utility that lets your computer connect to another directly without going through a router. It's part of the Dell WLAN driver package. Probably the best way to get rid of it is to uninstall "DW WLAN Card Utility" through Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall a Program. Then reinstall the 1520 wireless driver through Device Manager, pointing it to folder containing the extracted driver package (probably c:\dell\drivers\R262653\R262653\Drivers_US). That should result in installing just the driver without the baggage.

Re: Whats "PeerNet" for?
Thanks! To be honest: what I did is just to deactivate the "DW something" service and the "DW something" tray software using MSCONFIG.EXE.
Thanks Lacey for the confirmation that is a useless program.Alienware M15x | Cosmic Black | i7 740QM | NVIDIA GTX 460M | 8GB DDR3-1333 | 1920x1080 WLED | Blu-ray

Re: Whats "PeerNet" for?
Note: To run the "DW WLAN tools", the "DW something" service must be started.
So, it can be started from:
Look for "DW..." and do a manual start.Code:%windir%\system32\compmgmt.msc /s
Then the "DW WLAN tools" can be used.Alienware M15x | Cosmic Black | i7 740QM | NVIDIA GTX 460M | 8GB DDR3-1333 | 1920x1080 WLED | Blu-ray
