Default Alienware fans keep blowing hard even after cooldown

    Dear everybody,

I bought me an Alienware m14xR2 and enjoyed it much during the pas few days. However one thing seems to be wrong. After playing a heavy load game (ex. crysis 2) off course the heat builds up considerably. But when I stop playing, the fans who have been blowing 100%, keep blowing indefenitely.
I know they are supposed to cool the laptop down even after you are done playing, however they do not seem to be lower their intensity at all. When I put the laptop in sleep mode and immediately recover it from sleep mode everything is normal.
Running benchmarks on the system also boosts the fans, however they stop just fine if they run 100% for a short amount of time. Only when the system is loaded for longer periods of time the fans are not able to shut themselves down.

I have the quad core i7 with the 1GB videocard.

The question soff course are, is this a bug, is there a software upgrade or can I manually control the fans through a certain type of software?
I also have the Next Business Day On Site contract, so if this is a hardware issue I would have no problem getting them to replace a part.

    Thanks so much in advance,
    J

    Hey Psilo.

I'm not an AW expert so cannot speak about the behaviour of fans but I've had quite a few gaming laptops in my time that have most definitely ran hot. How are you physically operating your machine? Is it on your lap? A cooler pad? Resting on a cardboard box etc?
    Just received Alienware M14xR2 -- Intel Core i7 3720QM -- 8192MB (2x4096) 1600MHz DDR3 -- 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M -- 1600x900 WLED -- 500GB 7,200rpm SATA (will manual upgrade to SSD when I find a good one for a good price!)

    Hi Devianti,

Thanks for the quick reply. The laptop was just on a normal desk, so the fans would have been able to perform as they were designed. After a while the air it blows is actually completely cool, so there is no heat inside the laptop. This really seems to be a software issue....

    Any ideas?

everyone gets these. if you are running on high performance, your system constantly needs to use the active fan settings to cools your system. although, i recently found this nasty virus called "stdrt.exe" which makes my cpu % go crazy and makes my fan very loud.
