Hell, it's worth a shot. If they shoot you down, say you'll just have to take your business elsewere next time. It isn't to hard to haggle with Dell representatives.

Actually, I would ask for a refund and then wait for the Ivy Bridge refresh of the R2 rather than the current Sandy Bridge.

Better performance and battery life if you sit on your money and wait.

Ehhh I think if they give me a small refund I'd take the money. Seems as though the ivy bridge will be more money of which I don't want to spend, and this is the best comp I've ever owned, so I don't really need an upgrade, seeing as though I'll prob only be playing SWTOR and D3.

They're replacing Sandy Bridge with Ivy Bridge and I'm confident that the price will remain at 1099$ for the i5 and 1199$ for the i7, but it's up to you.

People on the overclock forums are claiming it's an "up to 15%' upgrade.

Also, why would they give you a "small refund"? You're still within your 21 days

When youre within the 21 days the policy states that unless there's an issue with the laptop it's a 15% restocking fee. I got lucky cause there was an issue with my order and it got delayed so they waived it.

Sure the r1 is still a great laptop but if you plan to game with it the r2 refresh is defiantly worth it. The new 650m will bump the performance to a 560m+ level.

The 650m and ivy bridge updates will also help and possibly fix the overheating problem.

Of course if gaming isn't your thing then there isn't much difference.

I posted a few weeks ago...but since then the Rs has come out and I have a question.

So I received my m14x at the beginning of the school year, and at this point I'm waiting another week until I'm home and not living off of it here at school to call up Dell and demand a replacement or refund of something. I take good care of it, and yet had a broken mic/screen on arrival(technician came and fixed), the speakers broke(fixed) and now am getting multiple BSOD's and an occasional system failure which takes an hour or two for windows to restore itself(I've fresh installed Windows-no help). I'm a college student, soo I need a laptop. But when I go home, first thing I'm doing is calling them. I purchased the 2 year accidental warranty as well, if that makes any difference.
Does anyone have any idea, if I were to have them replace my machine or demand a refund, would they upgrade me to an R2? Just kind of curious. I've about had it at this point. I need a reliable machine. And it needs to be powerful for the work I do so I went with alienware.
Any help/input would be appreciated

Edit: also, the battery will now not last for more than 2 hours...wasn't like this about a month ago. I'm fairly computer savvy and have it running on what should be a "max battery life mode" which used to be an easy 5-6 and an occasional 6.5/7 hours.
