Re: Deciding between 2 laptops same processor
M14x, it's no brainer really
It's also more portable with much better battery life so you can take it with you outside without much issues.
Performance will be very similar
I only recommend the MSI if you were to wait for the GTX 680m which will be available for that laptop but not the alienware m14x
GTX570m + gtx580m are old cards, GTX675m = GTX580m with name changed onlyM17X R3|2720QM|2GB 6970M|16GB HyperX||2x WD 750GB BLACK|BluRay|1080p|Intel 6300

Re: Deciding between 2 laptops same processor
The 570M and 580M are actually both faster than the GTX 650M which means the MSI is better than the Alienware, and cheaper too. Being old cards doesn't really matter if they are faster than the new card in the Alienware.
The Alienware would have better battery life but only a 1600x900 screen and a glossy (correct me if I'm wrong) whereas the MSI would have a matte 1920x1080 screen and a second HD bay for an SSD in the future. Plus the Alienware is 1lb heavier with battery so it's not that much more "portable".
So in the end for gaming MSI > Alienware and battery life Alienware > MSI.mid 2009 MBP 13: 2.26 c2d || 500gb seagate momentus || 4gb 1333 || slappa hardbody pro carbon elektra review

Re: Deciding between 2 laptops same processor
So much misinformed info in one post.......
You can put SSD+HD in the m14x if you bothered to check the link posted in OP
m14x is more portable, it's smaller and much better battery, Don't care about 1lb weight, if i were to take my laptop outside i rather to have +8hours laptop over +1hour laptop, yes battery is huge factor for portability
For pure gaming the m14x will in fact perform better duo the lower screen resolution, when i said they are nearly similar i was talking about 1080p
The newer m14x got anti-glare glossy screen unlike the previous m14x with glossy-none anti glare screen, and matte screen got its disadvantages so not sure why you are listing it as if it were an advantage
The GTX650m is not a bad card as what its name sound, it's basically a GTX660m with minimal downclocking (the rest is pretty much identical)
GTX 570 and GTX580m are ugly cards now, the performance gain is very minimal, it's not worth the extra heat/noise and the the extra price specially for the 580m
Again OP
Get m14x or get the MSI when GTX680m is released otherwise you are basically paying more for less
PS : just checked the weight, basically you got EVERYTHING wrong and don't know what you are talking about so stick to mac please.
The m14x is lighter even with the battery.M17X R3|2720QM|2GB 6970M|16GB HyperX||2x WD 750GB BLACK|BluRay|1080p|Intel 6300

Re: Deciding between 2 laptops same processor
It's an mSATA SSD lol. Real SSD > mSATA. Unless you take out the optical drive then you can have a real SSD with a HDD.
The GTX 650M is between a 460M and a 560M. And a 570M is a lot faster than a 560M.
It's fine tho, you seem like an Alienware fanboii. The OP can decide on what they want, but they are going to get better price/performance with the MSI.mid 2009 MBP 13: 2.26 c2d || 500gb seagate momentus || 4gb 1333 || slappa hardbody pro carbon elektra review

Re: Deciding between 2 laptops same processor

This mSATA is better than most 2.5 SSDs spare us more stupidity.
As i said you were wrong about everything including the weight not sure why you pull random false info from nowhere to misguide the OP.
Yeah I'm alienware fanboy that's why I'm telling him to get the MSI when GTX680m is released soon..... you are embarrassing yourself, next time open your mouth when you know what are you talking about, the 650m (DDR5 version the one in m14x R2 not DDR3 version) is not between GTX 460m and GTX 560m, it's faster than 560m itself/on par and about the same as 660m (downclocked 660m) you love to provide BS info don't you? anyway I already made it clear, just didn't want a complete fool to misguide the OP so I'm done
Good luck getting whatever lap you need
and for s2odin stick to macs, you are ignorant to laptops

Re: Deciding between 2 laptops same processor
you have to ask yourself, what is more important. better battery life or better performance and your budget.
the Msi is more future proved, you can upgrade the gpu later on. the 95% matte screen should be better than the alienware's.
on the other hand, M14 has much better build quality, better warranty(you have to pay for it), much better battery life.__________________
