    Default Dell Support sux!

"Sympathy face" awhile back i bought an alienware m14x... but the week after i bought it... the harddrive crapped out on me, i called teck support and after 2 days they told me they would mail me a hard drive, but i had to install it myself, aswells as windows... so long story short, i lost the majority of the applications that came with it, and half of them i didn't even know existed..

a short time ago, i found the "smartsource.dell.com" site.. i sign in, and it wants me to register my computer, so i think, "ok, why not" then it has me download a program call syspro, i think, and begins "examining your computer"

even longer story shorter. it gets stuck on examining your computer, infinately... is there anyway aroudn that, or a fix for it? or perhaps just some way i can type in the service code, being as it is PRINTED ON THE COMPUTER! rage

Might want to give support a call - they can assist you with this. First report of someone not being able to log into smartsource which I have come across. I just cleared cookies to test and was able to access smartsource without issue.

Check with support and they can work with you to resolve.

Your HDD might still work and just developed some bad sectors..speculation, of course.
Put it in a external enclosure and see if you can recover (some of) your data, worth a try.

Hard drive fails sucks, I know.

Oh Smartsource? I'm one of those who unable to get it registered until last month They recommend to access it on IE which in that time I have the latest IE9 however for some unknown reason it seem to doesnt support the latest IE browser so I switch to IE8 to see if it work and it did! you might want to downgrade your IE to version 8. And try again.

For the HDD, it pretty sad for you to have it mail to you and do everything on your own though, for me in the last 3 weeks, when my HDD was fail. They did send a guy and spend around 3hrs (Because I also replacing Speaker and SUbwoofer that why is take that long) actually come to my house and replace it in front of me plus with the Windows/Drivers installation and do the final diagnostic to check if every working good, without any hassle at all. And that for by far my best experience with Dell Tech Support since I bought the laptop 4 months ago.

If your lucky, usualy its hours and transfers and call backs and at the end it's still not fixed.Dell service is horrible unless you get lucky and get someone on the line that cares. It's extremely rare but it has been known to happen.I cringe at the very thought of having to call Dell support,I just got a chill thinking about it.Horrible!

I highly recommend you try support through the social media team. It's much easier in most cases. You can reach them on Twitter- @DellCares or you can go to the Dell Facebook page and hit the "support" link on the left. If you are not on Twitter or Facebook, you can PM me your service tag and contact email. I can forward you to the team.

I wish I saw your recomendation, before I had to waste months, overall with tech support.Who told me to check my ram, on a laptop that had no power,How do you go into the bios when the pc has a dead motherboard, and no power??????I got a slack jawed response of, I have to ask another tech.LOL,They would've been better off telling me to call Obi wan and use the force to ck ram,at least I would've gotten a laugh out of a complete waste of time.
