Gaming on the Intel HD 3000

Integrated graphics cards get a lot of flack from gamers, but the Intel HD 3000 in the M14x isn't as bad as most people assume.

I tried running Resident Evil 5 on 1280x720 (medium settings, no AA, no motion blur, vsync on), and got a quite acceptable 42.4 frames per second on the fixed benchmark. The actual game was quite playable.

On Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, I get 67 fps on the benchmark, with resolution set to 1280x720, high stage and character model quality, vsync, fixed framerate, and everything else set to low or off.

Not bad for an integrated card. Anybody else care to chime in on what's playable and on what settings for those times we need to game on battery without turning on the 555M?

Yeah i admit that the intel 300 hd is great. It dynamically boost itself over 1 ghz when needed. I like it a lot for flash and java applications. But it's nothing compared to the gt555m.

CPU @ 1.5ghz, and running on the IGP, I was getting around 30-40fps on Left 4 Dead 2 @ 1366x768 with all settings on low and models and textures on medium

It ran KOTOR very well and I didn't realize it was on the integrated until I went in to change the AA settings and it couldn't max it out. I had to whitelist it for the GT555.

Integrated graphics have made a huge leap in the last 3-5 years, it gets like 3-4k in 3d mark 06 I think. About 3 years ago they got like 200 lol.

I'm new to pc laptops and am trying to get one that will run a couple of simple programs. Will the HD 2000 (or 3000) run a program that recommends : {256 MB Pixel Shader 3.0 (ATI X1600 or nVidia 6800 GT/GS or better) graphics adapter recommended}?

It's for a car racing simulator on iracing.com.

I've been getting mixed feedback from shops and wanted to be certain.

also, how much dedicated memory do these come with?

I was running Unreal Tournament 3 using the HD 3000 that's in my Samsung QX411 earlier and it ran quite exceptionally. I was also running on battery at the time. If I recal, my old Acer 17" system from about a year ago struggled to run UT3 on AC power using the Intel HD graphics that came with the previous round of Intel chips.

lmon, th m14x does have a proper graphics card, a GT555m, so it should run what you are trying to do, even if not on the integrated card.
