Default Help: cannot reinstall os from external cd drive

    Hi guys,

I just swapped the harddrive on my R3 for a SSD. I then went to install windows 7 from the disk that came with the machine using an external hp cd drive...It starts loading the windows files, but stops at the beginning of the installation asking for a CD/DVD driver...Is this normal? I thought you should just be able to boot from an external CD drive and install the OS.

Any help would be highly appreciated...

Are you plugged into the USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports?

Use the 2.0 port when installing.

so many people encouter this issue, but no document gives a hint from Alienware, they could have at least written something on the recovery DVD packaging or something...

@Luis: can you put some mention on the tech docs you guys create? After a few links pointing to that google will pick it up for those searching on solutions (I think).

I can try to have that updated on our database, we have an article on how to reinstall Windows so I will be pushing to add that there as a note.
