Well, in saying all of that, SURELY there's mod's that people can do if they want to keep their systems for a few more years, I reckon I'd be able to keep this as is for 3ish years, even if it's just my carry-around... I really am happy with it. I'll just upgrade my M15X for as long as I can or get a bigger desktop/desktop-replacement.

Anyway, I'm sure there's people out there who will find ways to keep their machine's kicking for a few more years and mod them to their desire.
There has to be a matte screen out there which people could put on themselves, and if there are motherboards/ULV CPU's that the M11X can handle, I'm sure people will happily upgrade it themselves...

I'm not one for a real technical analysis and the likes, but I'm sure we'll still see these machine's still kicking it for a long time yet!

It's a dumb decision to out phase the M11x. It was a unique cool laptop they could be proud over.

Maybe Alienware is not doing so well, and need to focus their effort on fewer machines. I don't buy any of the other excuses. Anyway, sad indeed.

This is still all kinds of sad. It looks like I'm getting that clevo 11" this summer. It was probably phased out due to its low price point/profit margin. Why sell a laptop that does 90% of the m14x's job when you could sell the higher margin unit? Problem is that I was never interested in anything bigger than the m11x from alienware

Not really surprised at this, I will say that the m14x needs some better features to compair to the m11x....

First would be to get rid of the dvd drive, expand the battery and add a 2nd hdd into that space.

I am glad I didn't wait and like I mentioned to people waiting you can always sell the older model when the time comes because these babies do not fall in price, especially NOW they will retain their price very handsomely!

Shocked though, 650M + Ivy ULV would have been so special in one of these.

Most will but 20watt more consumption, no backlit keyboard and less battery life its not made for gamers on the move.
That's 20W more MAX TDP. It can sip power on battery and likely get 5-6 hours battery, if not more, running off IGP.

Well, I shed a tear in either eye when I read the M11x was to be discontinued.

I've had a good run out of my M11xR1... maybe I should get my free replacement monitor with hinges quick before the DELL minions forget what an M11xR1 is.

I still think there is a place for a slimmed down UltraBook M11x, but guess I'm wrong.

When you are gaming on battery which is what this model is made for it will make a massive difference, if we only get 2-2.5 hours when it is flat out at the moment consider 1.5 hours tops on the clevo/sager no different to a desktop replacement.

The M11x also consumes more than 10-12watts at basic use when everything is turned off and down so the clevo will certainly consume more than that, around 20 minimum and more if you are going to put in a 35watt CPU.

I can see it being very noisy and hot as well with that much power in such a small space with only one small fan.

Biggest factor, no backlit keyboard. Fail. Most usage in bed at night while mrs is asleep or watching tele with light off. Its a must have.

This news is not all bad for me, my m11x just became extinct so when I list it on Ebay in the future in MINT condition I will get the best price for it and the most return because people will be looking for them once they vanish off the shelves.

On the downside for me those that went for the I7 just made a very very good move as they now have the best possible model.

Time for an update, pick up an R3 now while they are cheap if you are still going strong on the R1 the R3 will be a worthwhile upgrade.

The hinge problem has apparantly been fixed on these as well.

Finally Settlers Online Beta is superb for those that are interested, I am totally addicted its a great game!

Too bad, getting the CLEVO now 100% sure of that. Thanks AW for making my decission much easier.
Maybe they can now put out a 13" model that can replace the M11x.
I would rather have seen them get rid of the M14x ( nothing personal to M14x owners).
    Sad day!
