Please check this "R3" configuration - urgent
I apologise for accidentally having tagged this Q onto an old thread earlier, and I apologise again for starting a new one now, but I've ordered this supposed R3 and need to know if I should cancel it - it looks like a mish-mash when I investigate the specs:
Can this configuration be an R3?
· Intel® Core™ i7-640UM Processor (4M Cache, 1.2GHz turbo to 2.26Ghz)***
· 500GB 7200 RPM hard Drive
· 4098MB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM
· Internal High-Definition 5.1 Surround Sound Audio
· Intel Wireless-N 1000 Card
· Display 11.6in Wide HD 1366x768 (720p) LCD
· Integrated Laptop Webcam
. Dell Bluetooth 365 Module
· 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 545M
· 8 Cell, Lithium Ion Primary Battery
· IEEE 1394a (4-pin) port
· Integrated Ethernet RJ-45 (100 Mbps)
· 3 Hi-speed USB 3.0 ports
· DP / HDMI - Video Output
· Audio In / Microphone Jack (retaskable for 5.1 audio)
*** This is a "first generation" i7:
SLBMM 640UM 1.20GHz 2.26GHz -- 2 cores -- HT Yes -- Video clock 166 MHz -- L3 cache 4 MB -- Tech 32 nm - -TDP(W) 18 -- Max temp 105 -- Socket BGA1288
Intel say that the 640UM runs DDR3-800, not 1333
nVidia list the GT 545 with 1.5gb RAM, not 1.0gb, but I may not have found alternatives which do exist.
I am very confused and in a panic. Some of you already know I want this for video editing, not games.
I cannot seem to ascertain what's different in the BASE of the R2 and R3, are the higher-end CPUs that come with the R3 able to be installed in an R2, for example? If the 640UM turns out to be too slow, could I upgrade it?Asus G1Sn Win7HP64-bit | Alienware M11x-R3 Win7HP64-bit | Alienware M11x-R1 Win7HP64-bit

Re: Please check this "R3" configuration - urgent
That's not an r3 that's an r2 and it has a 335m not a 545, it's from the Dell outlet isn't it? The y have r3s tagged as having 550ms too. It's a typo or something but that is definitely and r2.

Re: M11xR3 Pre-Order Configuration Questions... Ask HERE
I was talking to a Dell salesperson today and he mentioned an interesting thing. It could be just normal sales talk.
He said I should buy the M11x R3 I have chosen now because "few of the parts are going end of life very soon .. And moreover the price will not be the same once the part changes."
Does this mean anything? Are they just running out of stock or are they expecting updated options soon?Alienware M18x Stealth Black | Core i7 2820QM | Radeon HD 6990M CrossFireX | 16GB 1866MHz HyperX | 2 x 500GB Momentus XT (RAID 0) | Killer Wireless-N 1103 | Blu-Ray | Win8 | M18x Orion Backpack | R.A.T 7 | G13

Re: M11xR3 Pre-Order Configuration Questions... Ask HERE
Most likely they will jump on ivy when it hits the streets and the 640m as it looks so good. But what he said was also right the prices will go through the roof so for similiar performance to what you can get from the old hardware you will pay through the tooth for in the new.
My R3 is running Skyrim all high 8x aa and 8x af at max res at 30fps. What more do I need?

Re: Is this good for one of those laptops?
That's exactly the model I bought two weeks ago and I'm loving it. Some peopel will say to save some money and get the i5 over the i7 since there isn't that much of a difference and your not getting the full i7 either as it is under volted.
These cores run on 17 watts while a regular core will run on 35 or 45 watts.
Unless you actually need the extra processing power...the i5 would be the better buy. I got the i7 cause I need it and the price difference isn't as great in the USA compared to rest of the world.Dell Studio 1537, Alienware M11x R3, Alienware M18x R1, Alienware M7700, Dell U2711 Monitor, Dell U2412m Monitor, Alienware Tactx Keyboard, Razer Mamba Mouse
