Re: How to pinmod and further overclock the M11x R1 (SLG= Hardmod only)
*some* MSR tweaks are available for Intel CPUs. Eg: the Throttlestop utility tweaks MSR values and can set things like voltage and run dual-IDA for IDA-capable c2d or change TDL/TRL turbo boot parameters but that's it. In the case of the m11xR1's SU4100/SU7300, dual-IDA isn't available.
Only way to get faster CPU performance that we know of (Intel could have some unlock feature somewhere that is confidential), is via a PLL pinmod. To go faster still would need to BGA unsolder the CPU and install a L9400/L9600/P9400/P9600 CPU. Hardly worth it given how inexpensive notebooks are these days and other alternatives like ultraportables+eGPUs that convincingly outperform even a m11xR3.Last edited by User Retired 2; 24th May 2012 at 06:59 AM.

Re: How to pinmod and further overclock the M11x R1 (SLG= Hardmod only)
go a head and give it a shot if you want. i would love to see someone hit 2.4ghz
.
just remember no matter what ram you try out. the M11x is still going to run it at the settings its set to. (depending on OC mode enabled/disabled, Pinmod, ect).
those XMP profiles and auto OCing stuff are made for "I" series CPUs and wont have any effect on the C2D in the M11x. the M11x will just treat it like any other RAM, trust me i tryed out some of the stupid expensive 1600mhz Kingston stuff a while back. i actually couldn't even get stable with both sticks on my 2.0ghz pinmod. let alone 2.4ghz even tho the Jdec table led me to believe it would have worked...
i know it all kinda boils down to bandwidth but using the low timings that the M11x sets really make the RAM unstable.

1866 cl10 or 1600 cl9 have the same chance to oc but 1600 cl9 are cheaper. I'm interested too but for now I can't make any investment, need to get pass my faculty license... just a silly paper to proove myself to the employer

Re: How to pinmod and further overclock the M11x R1 (SLG= Hardmod only)
I'm curious about temperature gains once finished with the CPU over clocking and pin mod from the factory 1.3ghz, how much noticeably different is it?
I run D3 for semi long sessions (hour to hour and half long) and it gets reasonably hot. Even using my NC-2000 cooling pad.M11xR1 / 1.3 / 6GB / 256GB SSD / NVIDIA GT 335 /

Re: How to pinmod and further overclock the M11x R1 (SLG= Hardmod only)
Pinmod to 2.0Ghz and vid mod increase for stability; temperatures [when max load, doesn't reach 60 ~I've seen once 58 but most of time when gaming is a little over 50]
Using the integrated graphics and cpu at 2Ghz, having an ssd, my sistem is complety silent when music, web browsing and videos, only when compiling or watching hd video the vents start from time to time [using the discrete graphic the system's fan starts quite often, that's the reason I stay with the official old switchable drivers until there will be a way to choose integrated/discrete in bios]
PS: when siting on the desk with the laptop, I use these Mini Cool Ball Laptop Cooling Pad: [don't like active fan cooling pad because of the noise]

Re: How to pinmod and further overclock the M11x R1 (SLG= Hardmod only)
So after I cut the pin (i have the ICS) is it going to boot up to 2 Ghz or i need to do some other modding?

Re: How to pinmod and further overclock the M11x R1 (SLG= Hardmod only)
not to sound like a jerk but... did you read the first page?
to answer you question, no. you have to mess with some software to get the ICS to OC the CPU.
it may be possible to just do the "pinmod" to get the ICS OCed @ 2.0Ghz but no one has ever reported doing it on here that i can recall.M14x R2 - I7-3610QM - 8Gb GSkill 1600 (9-9-9-28) - GT 650M 2Gb
