R2 won't wake up after sleep/close lid
Just got an R2, very happy with it except for one glaring issue: it can't wake up from sleep after closing the lid or pressing the power button.
I've read up on this issue and it seems to be a driver problem. However, as far as I know they are all up to date. I updated the Intel integrated graphics driver, and I think I installed the latest nVidia driver (msinfo says Driver Version 8.17.12.5730) because trying to install 258.96 doesn't work.
I've fiddled with all the power management settings as well. Hybrid mode is off, and the system is set to hibernate only after 360 hours, so I don't think the problem's there. So for the moment I'm stumped.
I need this laptop fully functional soon, in time for the start of school. Please help me!

Re: R2 won't wake up after sleep/close lid
There was another thread on this topic. Including a youtube video.
Something about the guy ending up sending it back.
Also something ( if i remember ) drivers.. doing them from a fresh install.. removing old ones then reinstalling new ones.
There was a link to a program that removed old driver files before installing new ones..
Also something about using Dells drivers.
Before sending it back.. and if it were mine, I would read read that post, try the cleaning of drivers.. and reinstall dells drivers.. if that didnt work I would redo windows completely.. if that didn't work ide send it back.
Just my advice.

Re: R2 won't wake up after sleep/close lid
I've had this problem a few times. It seems like every time I've had the computer plugged in while in sleep mode. i unplugg the computer and try to wake it up and thats when it seems to freeze.

Re: R2 won't wake up after sleep/close lid
LittleGreenMen, I found the thread you mentioned but it seems to be more of a flame fest than a solution :P. Do you know the name of the program to clean up drivers?

Re: R2 won't wake up after sleep/close lid
I believe the driver cleanup utility he is refering to is called Drvie Sweeper from Guru 3D.
Guru3D - Driver Sweeper
1) Uninstall the current Nvidia drivers
2) Reboot into Windows safe mode
3) Run the cleaner and remove Nvidia drivers that appear in the list.
4) Reboot to normal mode
5) Reinstall drivers
6) ta-done.

Re: R2 won't wake up after sleep/close lid
Isn't this related to the AlienFusion service?
I'm using an R2, 257.30 drivers, and I turned the AF service off. Mine goes to sleep fine...

Re: R2 won't wake up after sleep/close lid
Turned off the AlienFusion service, the problem persists. Do you think that I should update to the nVidia beta drivers? Or is this machine just a dud?

Re: R2 won't wake up after sleep/close lid
I don't see how it would be nvidia drivers. Download the latest Intel drivers for the IGP. I've been running those for the past 7 weeks.

Re: R2 won't wake up after sleep/close lid
Never mind, I spoke too soon.
Disabling AlienFusion seems to have done the trick. Forgot to wait the full 10 seconds after closing the lid. Thanks so much everybody for the help!
EDIT: so, to summarize my various solutions for anybody else who stumbles on this problem.
- Turn off the AlienFusion service, which I think was the root cause of the problem
- Check your battery power options to see if sleep is properly configured
- Make sure you have the latest graphics display and BIOS drivers, and you might want to check out the utility above (Guru3D Drive Sweeper) to uninstall your old drivers
- And wait the full 10 seconds after closing the lid for the machine to properly shut off!!Last edited by nuclearbob; 4th August 2010 at 08:46 PM. Reason: added full solution
