Re: M11xR2 Problem/Technical Question thread for New Owners
So I've beens searching around trying to identify the beeping noise my M11xR2 and haven't found anything that quite matches the description. So, at random times, a single beep (not from the speakers but from inside the computer) randomly sounds. This doesn't happen when I boot up the computer, but at random times while the computer is running. It seems to be coming from right below the arrow keys from within the laptop. Anyone know what could be causing this and how I could fix it?

Re: M11xR2 Problem/Technical Question thread for New Owners
I hear a beep every so often also - no idea what it is or why it is beeping. It is a fairly soft beep. Sometimes it is a double beep.
My main concern is this hinge defect everyone is talking about. I watched some videos and my M11X seems to open without the gaps that are in the videos, does this mean mine should be ok or is this something that happens later? Trying to decide if I should just take it back to Best Buy since it is within the return period. I should say I absolutely LOVE this laptop - but really don't want headaches down the line.

I hear clicking which seems to originate from the HDD. Is this the beeping you others speak of?

Re: M11xR2 Problem/Technical Question thread for New Owners
Ive had some serious problems of late trying to play FFXIV online. I installed the game and set everything up. Everytime I click on the play button from the log in screen it'll attempt to boot the game and then it tells me only a second or so later that windows has encountered an error. This is the only game Im having problems with.
Does anyone else play FFXIV with their m11x r2?
*edit* Solved my problem. I found the solution in a post on this forum. Went into NVIDIA control panel and added the .exe for the game and put it under the GPU.Last edited by tonyOn1ce; 1st October 2010 at 04:42 AM.

Re: M11xR2 Problem/Technical Question thread for New Owners
No, there isn't

USB2 and USB3 have ONLY one difference - bus speeds. It's sortof like asking if you can convert 10/100 to GigE (I know GigE is also agnostic to data pinout, but please assume that is irrevelent in this comparison!).
You cannot - since the bottleneck is still the slower port your are converting from.
What has to be done? A native USB3 port has to be drawn from an USB3 controller, which (at this point) must be connected to the laptop's internal PCIe bus).
Right now, a few solutions exist (in terms of mPCIe cards), but they need extensive modding to work.
To recap: USB2-->USB3 are only seperated by speed, nothing else.
USB3 devices will work in USB2 ports. USB2 devices will work in USB3 ports.Vaio SA 13.3" i5 + HD6630m

Re: M11xR2 Problem/Technical Question thread for New Owners
Would be grateful for some help with the following:
1) Should I be concerned about very soft clicking coming from the HDD? CrystalDiskInfo reports good health for what it's worth. It's definitely not the same sound as the 'click of death'.
2) HWMonitor reports battery wear levels ranging from -7 to -58% (i.e. higher charge capacities than design). Anyone else see this?
3) Anyone else have issues getting the BIOS password request screen to come up? I've enabled and set supervisor (and user) passwords and while I am asked for a password when getting into BIOS settings, it never comes up prior to loading Windows. Is there some other setting I'm haven't enabled?
And yes, I got the 8GB RAM, but only because where I live that was the only RAM option with the i7 proc.Last edited by caduceusnz; 2nd October 2010 at 09:06 PM.
