Re: The Area 51 m15x hinge
What they told you was complete bull - certainly here in the UK they still have the irish depot repairing these systems. They fixed the screen on my m9750 just last month!
If your getting no joy then send mr Dell a direct email regarding this issue giving a phone number and the best time for them to call. You should receive a callback within 24 hours to resolve the issue.Alienware M9750 - T7600@2.33ghz/4GB DDR667/500gb & 320gb HDD/Blu-Ray Burner/Dual ATI HD3870 Crossfire/Intel 4965AGN/TV Tuner/Windows 7 Professional

Re: The Area 51 m15x hinge
Thanks for the info, any telephone numbers / emails I could contact you know?
So I got an email just saying they confirmed the hinge problem and they wanted my original invoice.
Iv not got this [after 2 and half years], so iv attached the email auto generated after i paid with my credit card which basically states all the information of the invoice they sent me, which includes invoice no. and order number. Also I sent 2 screen shots of my online 'My Hive Support' area invoice - showing the same info.
Just waiting to see how they respond.

Re: The Area 51 m15x hinge
Update:
So I called aleinware to see whats going on as iv had no calls / email about this 'offer'.
I spoke to the same techi who I started this process with and he just told me apparently now they do or more accuratley will have the parts to repair the computer, but they dont know when they will get them.
I said 'you got 10 working days to contact me or I want a replacement system'.
I think they are playing games with me to be honest.
So im gonna email dell as suggested, any specific contact email you guys know?

Re: The Area 51 m15x hinge
Update: Yesterday 23/05/2011 was the 10th day I agreed to wait for contact about these parts for the repair..
..no one contact me as expected.
I called alienware spoke to some techi who said something like "oh noes our internal database system is down call back thursday!" ...for this I gave them a good ear full and said i wanted to speak to somone now as I was not going to wait for thursday and wanted a replacement system not a repair as the deadline had now passed.
Sent an email to cer_aw@dell.com and cer_aw1@dell.com with a everything that was said in the conversation and said I wanted an immediate response.
TODAY
I checked my email and had an email form their specialist escalation techi and he basically said in previous email they agreed the replacement system option and that they would honour that option.
Said they would offer me same value new m17x as my current system and that I would need send the current system back to them at my own expense..

Re: The Area 51 m15x hinge
I have been searching how to fix hinge issue and came across this forum and 2 videos on youtube. I have same question that many asked but didn't find the answer.
1. How to remove hinge cover, so that I can loosen up the hinge? In the youtube video MysticIncarnate suggests to use force, but someone on the forum mentioned that there are 2 screws. Panel is disassambled right now and I see that one of the hinges is not vertical to the keyboard, but under appr 45 degree angle. I am afraid it would prevent me from putting everything back together unless I remove hinge cover and loosen hinges up.
2. If two nuts out of 8 that need to be glued are misplaced - would 3 on each side be able to support the screen?

Re: The Area 51 m15x hinge
Hi,
I have made some videos when I replaced the LCD cover about 5 months ago. Never got time to stitch together the videos and upload it :-(. To answer your question, there are two screws in the bottom of the hinge which needs to be removed (I think beneath the battery). If you apply force, I am afraid it will break off. It is quite simple process to remove those 2 screws!
I am having 2 screws on one side and 3 on the other side of the screen bottom. So far it is holding good - I guess the glue is doing a good job there![Area-51 m15x - C2D T9500 | ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 | 4GB DDR2 Crucial RAM | 256 GB Crucial M4 SSD | 1920x1200 [Logitech MX518] [Creative X-Fi] [Sennheiser HD595]

Re: The Area 51 m15x hinge
Hey i've had my m15x for just over a year an ever since i had it the hinge was starting to go now ive kinda had to do DIY.... pic will be attached (pic shows a big screw going through hinge to the back where i chopped screw so would stab myself travelling.

i was wondering how you have 1920x1200 res? as i only have 1440x900. also my cpu is stuck at x4 T9300 2.5Ghz so im having to use throttlestop to put it back to normal an well couldnt help but OC to 2.7Ghz. did u ever come across a problem with the cpu stuck at x4?
