    Default Blu-Ray burner?

Seriously considering ordering one of these beasts.

One of the reasons I'm hesitating, though, is the absence of a blu-ray burner.

Any of you folks know if the reader can be swapped out for a burner?

I'm guessing that because this is a slot-load, I'm probably stuck, but I have to ask.

Did you put those burners in or did Dell?

OEM Dell but they were interchangeable from R1<>R2
maybe if we check out the M18x service manual and compare R2 service manual there maybe answers!

    Hi there,
I asked Dell rep and he confirmed that Blu-ray is also Blu-ray Burner.
I guess we will find out soon. My EDD is 6-2-11 and I am interested in Blu-ray Burner capability.

The Optical drive is of the same form factor used in the other Dell and AW laptops. So if you want to dump a BD Writer or BD-ROM, just pick one up on eBay.

Removal Process is in the service manual -

Curious that they wouldn't mention that the BD is a burner in the tech specs.

Let us know what you get.

Now that a few systems are landing, are any of you able to tell if the BD drive can burn BD as well?

I'm scoping out buying an M18x now.... their site specifically says blu-ray READER.

    "Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader (BR-ROM, DVD+-RW, CD-RW)"

I've seen the M17x's in the past, prolly in the R2 days, that had advertised, specificlly, a BR burner.

I think Dell would be smart and offer what is available. For them to 'say' it is a reader, when it will really do writing too would be lame on their part.
