Default M17x R3... is with the Hard Drive prices??

ok so first thing i noticed was you can get two 500 GB Hybird solid state hard drives for $75 less then two 750 GB 7,200 RPM hard drives! since when have solid state hard drives been so cheep!?!?

the second thing i noticed was if you get the two 750 GB hard drives with raid 1 instead of raid 0 you pay $150 less! The hell is that alienware two 750 GB hard drives cost you the same to put in the system wither there raid 1 or raid 0!

anyone have an explanation for this!?

oh and if anyone can direct me to a thread that could explain how to remove the raid 1 if i were to order the two 750 GB hard drives at the cheaper price that would be great! cuz i just want more storage space... i got a 2 TB network hard drive for backing up my data

Buy your own hard drives. Gets even cheaper.

The 'hybrid solid state drives' are likely Seagate Momentus XT drives. Basically, normal 7200RPM hard drives with a 4GB SLC SSD read buffer stuck onto it...the idea being that files are 'cached' on the small SSD when a related file is loaded. The drive 'learns' these associations over time. Means Windows boot and regularly used programs (and games) load a lot faster. Upshot is that they're only marginally more expensive than the standard hard drives, so it's not suprising that they're that 'cheap'.

As for the RAID 1 thing, that really is odd, probably a bug in their system. Should be easy enough to change it from RAID 1 to RAID 0.

But as unreal said, it's really easy just to buy your own hard drive(s) and put them in yourself. Very easy to swap.

-true but not everybody knows that they can use them separately in eighter RAID 0 or independent HDDs so that might be it.

-and to remove RAID 1 just wipe them off and reinstall windows after disabling RAID in BIOS to eighter AHCI or RAID 0(if you want to play with fire).
Any idea that you might have in your mind won't work( removing and wiping the 2nd HDD).

Also if you still want to go with the RAID 0 config after disabling RAID 1 take a look at THIS thread.

You are confused, these are not SSD. They are hybrid drives... Meaning they are a regular 7200RPM drive with 64MB of Flash drive as a buffer or less. They are most of the time slightly faster than a regular 7200RPM HDD but nothing in comparison to SSD.
