Default Restore Factory Settings - Aspire 1642WLMi

    Hello.

My Acer Aspire 1642WLMi needs a restore and i have lost my cd's

i was told about the ALT+F10 thing but it doesnt work

after looking into PartitionMagic I found that there is a partition called PQSERVICE and has alot of files including IMAGE files (GHS files , no GHO files)

Anyway. Is it possible to restore this without the ALT+F10 method. mabey using GHOST.

EDIT: I have all the files on the partition on the C Drive thanks to Acronis Disk Suite

Have you tried to create new CDs through eRecovery that came with your lappy?

I'm going to suggest 2 things here.

#1. Contact acer and have them send you origional windows xp disks not restore or recovery or any other crap like

#2. Make a backup of your entire hard drive partition table once you get your pc running the way you want. This will prevent any further mishaps.

So the long answer is no, you can't just boot from C: to an image, it don't work like that. If anything it's run in DOS and run from a specific application. I highly doubt you want to take the time to do such a thing, or have the patience for it. just send it back or acqurie the needed disks to reinstall.

    That is all.

Acer want £50 for Restore CDs... yeah i have a backup of my current partitions

but the thing is, I have a PQSERVICE partition! i copied all the files to my C Drive to see them, i can see many GHS files (no GHO).

so what should i do? is there no way to manually restore the partition using PQSERVICE or its files?

Ok, i managed to get PQSERVICE as the active partition - it seems that the ALT+F10 technique wasnt working because when I reinstalled Windows XP, it played with the MBR which disabled it.

Anyway - when the partition boots, I get:
    Starting Windows 98

Type the name of the Command Interpreter (e.g., C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM)
    A>

and I am able to type from there, any suggestions
    Thanks in advance
