Is Acer a reliable laptop brand?
All I've been getting from friends and family about buying an Acer laptop is disapproval, saying that it will break easily, have hardware problems or will have problems with the warranty. I'm planning to buy an Acer Aspire V3 here in Saudi Arabia as a sort of budget gaming notebook, but coming from a long line of HP and Toshiba laptops I'm a little bit uncertain about purchasing.
Any opinion especially from long-time Acer users?

Re: Is Acer a reliable laptop brand?
I have owned 2 acers, currently on the Ultrabook S3 and I think they are incredible cost competitive machines. Sure you don't get the flash, but you get a damn good system for an even better price.

Re: Is Acer a reliable laptop brand?
I've had an Acer for a while now, and it's never had problems for me despite heavy use. Seems reliable considering the price.

Re: Is Acer a reliable laptop brand?
My acer 5930g looks good performs good and is the best laptop I have ever used.
My bro has a a500-1gl and that was crap feel, and speakers were crap compared to mine. I used many thinkpads about 5 of them including the t series and r series as well as the tecra series toshiba and latitude d820 d630's e6500 as well as hp elitebook 2530p and 6930p etc and they were very nice.
Overall apart from the battery life this is the best laptop I have used.

Re: Is Acer a reliable laptop brand?
Older Acers (the silver ones) were crap in terms of build quality.
Gemstone series was better and anything starting from Gemstone Blue onwards is really good quality.
It's always a good idea to get a feel of the notebook in a shopping center or something- not only to get a feel of it but also to check they keyboard.
Acer's keyboards are by no means bad by they don't have the feel Lenovo or Dell business notebooks have. If you're used to those kind of keyboards you may not like what Acer offers. I don't complain about it though.
People have complaints towards Acer mostly based on old silver-models. People who bought one of those would probably never recommend Acer to anyone.
I've been using Acers for 7 years now (with other notebooks going periodically through my desk too) and I'm pleased with the quality.

Re: Is Acer a reliable laptop brand?
I have an Acer 8951G which replaced a Dell XPS laptop. I’ve been
using the Acer since late 2011 (bought on price drop). No issues.
Many problems posted on these Acer forums are user induced. Typically,
the user manual isn’t read, then right out of the box brand new, wipe out
the hard drive (including Acer drivers), perform a clean OS install, then trouble. Or a BIOS upgrade 72hrs after buying, or hardware upgrades that don’t work. Then panic and send back to Acer.
Acer displays are great if you sit directly in front. LCD/LED viewing angles,
not so good, but a lot of other laptop brands have the same LCD issue.

Re: Is Acer a reliable laptop brand?
If you do your homework, you can get a reliable Acer. My TimelineX 3820TG has been flawless for 2 years of hard, daily work. I liked it so much I took the extended warranty as I knew I would be keeping it.
The very next model year was crap and had a lot of throttling problems. So, you really need to do your homework. I paid $720 for mine. Very few computers are as reliable and offer a powerful dedicated GPU at that price.Lenovo Thinkpad X301 | 13.3" (1440 x 900) | SU9400 @ 1.4 ghz | GMA 4500MHD | 6GB DDR3 | 128GB SSD | 3.3 lbs | (6+3 Cells)
Fujitsu Q552 Tablet | 10.1" (1280 x 800) IPS | N2600 @ 1.6 ghz | GMA 3600 | 2GB DDR2 | 64GB SSD | 1.7 lbs | 4 Cell 38WHr | N-Trig

Re: Is Acer a reliable laptop brand?
My 6920g has had its share of problems. However, it has been a phenomenal machine considering all I have put it through.
Having said that, I can't speak for the newer stuff acer is putting out. I don't think I would buy a new Acer at this point in time.
If you do go for one, make sure you get one with an Intel cpu and Nvidia gpu.Sager NP-8170 | Core i7 2720QM | NVIDIA GTX 680M 4GB GDDR5 | 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 | Bigfoot Networks Killer Wireless N | 500GB 7200RPM HDD | 72% NTSC GAMUT 1080P LED LCD | windows 7 ultimate | And my Microsoft intellimouse Explorer 3.0A
Acer Aspire 6920g | Upgraded to Core 2 duo T9500 2.6ghz (using ThrottleStop) | NVIDIA 9600m GT 512MB DDR3 overclocked to 715/1590/1000
